Aubrey Abanico - Design Talk - supporting regional weavers – AbanEco
Aubrey Abanico came to Australia with her parents and brother in 1990, first settling in a small country town. She is currently based in Castle Hill with her children. After finishing Fashion Design, she worked in Retail. After months of recovering from Meningitis, she decided to do something that makes her happy, the journey began with her running a mobile nail art and other freelance work which lasted for 4 years. It was during this time she made up her mind not to go back to a 9-5 job. Having a creative background, her innate passion and appreciation for handmade and handwoven crafts has always been there, so it came as no surprise that 3 years ago she pursued a path that led her to as she said, activities and things that fills her cup and excites her every morming, with the conception of AbanEco (name derived from her surname and love of eco friendly products). With this social enterprise she manages to share her ethos - first and foremost to help the indigenous weavers in the regional Philippines by supporting their products, thus keeping their century old crafts alive, secondly being kind to the environment by using and selling only natural made products. Aubrey is optimistic people are becoming more aware of their impact on the environment and the roles we all have in this. Please tune in to Radio Tagumpay at Triple H 100.1fm from 6pm to 8pm tonight, Design Talk after 7pm.
