Uh to my uh left, Uh we have the first lady of course. Wait, why are you dreading your intro? Because I don't got no grammy, no emmy, I had no records, Like yeah, but I mean you're you're sometimes Philadelphia. You're Philadelphia now right because usually on the show you claim DC. But yeah, you always You're always a pie. She's been a presence on Philadelphia radio from all of them, Party nine Radio one, w uh p GC uh yeah you hot one on seven nine, Bloom, all the all ones that's here today giving your fans. Arthur journalists social justice activists and all around hip hop head a Philadelphian. Uh not to mention the owner the super cool and trendy uncle. Okay, wait wait Uncle Bobby's Coffee and Books Town. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome our guest today, Mark Lamot Hill. That intro took forty five minutes, Ladies and dumb thank you very much. I'll see you later night anyway, all right, Mark, So normally this show is ninety minutes to like four hours, or or seven hours if you're Jimmy Jim, we only have forty five minutes, so I don't know where to start. I mean, we can go with Russian collusion, we can go to protesting in sports, the criminal justice system. Are you team Drake? Team push? H? Have you canceled Kanye yet? Uh? What was j R? Thinking in the last five minutes of Game one? I don't know, get in by to Wyoming? Yeah, Wyoming. I did not get to invite to Wyoming. I got a quest I got a six a m invite to Wyoming. So you got a last minute. I thought it was a trap though, me and this show. I thought it was a trap. Mark too. Well, you know, most black people were like late minute, last minute, So I didn't know that. Yeah, I thought it was a prank because it was in I was in my sleep and then suddenly I got an alert saying can you come to Wyoming? Did you go? No? Okay, you know I wouldn't win shut it down. No, I wouldn't win that. That sounds like get off part two. Ain't going to going to Wyoming listen to fucking rap music. I don't know I'm doing a boy doing that. Yeah. Fonte had a point like why I travels to Wyoming for seven songs that is going to because you're part of it. Be on your phone and like, yo, I'll be honest with you. Three people hit me and said the smares were banging and that was the first thing gone. He's gone. But have you heard the record? I heard the whole album. I mean I heard her. I could have heard her on the way here. It was. It was like twelve minutes. The show was long. Here's that was longer. Here's the thing though. But the thing is that you know, as far as like bloated albums are concerned, like that started with public enemies, it takes a nation of millions. Like the first time I saw a single album with sixteen songs on it and interludes and all that stuff, and such logic was that he knew that cassettes were forty five minutes each, so he wanted to perfectly time and so that he fills up each side of a forty five minute cassette. But then everyone else followed suit. Suddenly Dayly Soul had like twenty three songs. But I mean, if you look where all the albums that we claim our classic, most of them joins are like thirty one minutes, like Stevie Wonders and Division is only thirty one minutes. I did any of them have a whole track of I Want to Kill Myself? I think I want to kill He wanted me. He wanted to kill you first, Yes, but you know, but he loves himself more than he loves you, and he wants as we got a hold on the mark because you know, as soon as we let them go, that's what happens, as soon as they leave us. Snoop was right, but no, but I think that mental health, mental health and black people are definitely I mean, that's that's an issue, all right. There's two sides of the issue because some people feel as though it's I don't know what you would call it, like his performative bipolarism, Like is it real if it's if everything is on display? Yes and no, I think because what happens is like you can already have an issue and then the bipolar just magnifies it. So you could be an attention hog and not be bipolar. But if you are an attention whore and then you polar, then you end up tweeting every ten seconds. You know what I mean, You end up to become Kanye or Donald Trump or Donald Trump or same thing. What were your thoughts on the album? Like Debbie giving the thorough listening on I give it if I listened to it can I played it in Uncle Bobby because people wanted to hear it right. There was no clean versions. I just played the whole album. I thought it got better as it went on. I thought sonically it was dope. I thought by it the best tracks and one when he went rapping, like I think it was track five or something. He wasn't rapping. There was one track where he doesn't rapere saying Charlie Wilson jamming when he's not rapping. I feel much because he's singing Charlie Wilson going back agains Charlotte Wilson and well, actually I'm saying his his singing on track five was dope. I mean I like song because I don't know Okay, yeah, yeah yeah mine is wouldn't leave and the Charlie Wilson jam I don't with us and knowing the names of the song, I never had a good sign like when I can name the two songs I funk with. That's not designed of a good album, even when it's only seven tracks. Nigger, that's even more like seven times to getting ship two seven. Let's let's include the fourth wall of who's watching this right now? Because we can't ignore our audience A show of hands? Have you listened to the album more than five times? Wow? Have you? Have you listened to the album at least once? Okay? Did you just do the thirty second skip thirty second skip thirty second skip yeave home? It's Kanye completely canceled. Oh are you just indifferent? You don't care? No, this it's kind of listen. Last night we had a moment so at at Johnny Brenda's NIGHTE was spending and I want to say Mike Nice dropped was it get by or was it what's the quality? And Kanye record. I think it was a good bye. He dropped good bye and people started booing No, I've never seen that ship in my life. I was like, what, I think they food for another reason and the Kanye combo maybe the issue, but it's more Kanye because I'm we're kicking him out. He's gone after the Whitney start tweetier picture, why are we no longer? H what? I mean, we're getting older. It's I mean, it's not It's not like I've never despite what the perceptions of me wearing the T shirt and all that stuff, like, I didn't go on public and say, yo, I'm canceling Kanye. I mean because I'm still looking at his tweets. I still spent a good portion of my day analyzing the music and all that stuff in the engineer and the stuff that I normally do. Um. I mean, I'm I'm cool on it. I mean part of me is like, Okay, I whatever new roots album, right, I know that my black thought is working with my black women, and you know he is uplifting them and not exploiting them. So I'm going to do that. Okay, well she has felt me, and I feel like he's spelled all the sisters. So let's move on that. I feel about appreciate. I just mean the sisters less. How do you feel the sisters though? I under say, because if you if you cancel an artist that don't black women. Now, it's not about not just sucking with it's on top of the fact that what you say about black people, like on top of your statements, on top of who you sit beside, on top of the fact, yo, I can't believe you didn't let that chick name your daughter Dawned and you went to like that's it's just so many levels. I ain't a thing. I just said the last thing on top of the fact that you licensed that that Whitney Houston picture, and that was so disrespectful. That was disrespecting that one. I thought that was I thought that was in bad taste. I mean, I got it. Let's take a station break. I am because I love y'all and y'all too, but I just got priorities. Okay, all right, So okay, so shifting gears, all right, So Mark, I had a question for you, like I agree with, like ninety presented the ship that you say, like you know about the Jill staring already? You you know the let's start a question with a preface. You know I respectwever. So question all right, so one with two part questions for Jill okay one Nigga, what were you thinking too? How do you feel now that she didn't finesse to everybody and run off on the plug with all that money. I ain't giving no money. Look, and well, like I thought she was gonna like like I knew she wasn't gona in anyway. I didn't vote for because she gonna be president. I voted for because I needed to make a protest. And I also hear me though, I also told everybody who was in a vulnerable state to vote for Hillary Clinton. Said, if you in California vote for Donald Trump. You in Texas vote for Hillary Clinton. I vote your conscience in the state that don't matter, but in vote trade. So if I'm in Pennsylvania and we could lose Pennsylvania, then you ote for Hillary Clinton, but get somebody in Wyoming. So what, so, what state did you vote in? What did you vote in a Pennsylvania and so who did you I respect the sac to the voting her face, y'all wish I could. Man, Man, you're mad I didn't do it, but I don't. There was like three party members. It's white people that made Donald Trump president and it was fifteen Green Party people. Doesn't matter, Mark La not white people. Votes matter. They voted for white people, twelve black people for the Green Party. So okay, so me okay. So so you say it was a protest. What were you protesting? A broken system where we have to two candidates that ain't ship? Okay, and until we have a letter party option. But would you argue that. I think we all argue ain't one party a lot more ain't ship than the other. No, I think that equally ain't ship, and I think Donald shutting up, I think that equally. I'm saying that equally ain't sient. However, Donald Trump is of a whole different sort. He's not Republican ord He's ain't ship of a whole different So proven my point. Like, I think he's way more ancient than she is, and that's a lot more dangerous. And that's why I told people in vulnerable states not to vote for for him or Jill stop. Okay, That's what I'm saying. It wasn't mix things that you can ask. Do you have feelings about Yanna? Have you aboarded the Yanna Pressley uh train yet? Have you heard of No? I'm predicting that she will be she could possibly be the next president. Oh yes, I'm thinking I was Presley. You want to get on early like, think there's a Barack circa two thousand two. Ain't voting for no Democrats? So that's just me. So she's a third party member. But so she's basically the bitcoin of goddamn all right, imagine imagine a Sistan. Imagine this is Barack two thousand two, and you know it's about to happen two thousand and eight. I feel as though Yana Presley could well I would vote for independent, yes, So okay, So why wouldn't you vote for a for a Democrat? Because I think we need a third party absolutely, and until you fund the third party, there won't be three options. So it's the same thing that basically what the Tea Party there was. They created a third party, and then the third party took over the Republican Party. So now the Republican and twenty years ago something different. We either got to make a third party on the left or take over the Democratic Party. Is that in the process that happening? Yeah, Like is it a small group of people that are putting this together like the teapot. I think it's a big group of people. If you look at the radical ship, that's happened, gay marriage, end in bail, I'm legalizing weed. This is this is really weird for me to hearing what we're saying. Politically, we're hearing trap music over there. It fits right level, right, No, you were saying, yeah, No, I mean that's basically yeah. I think we gotta take this ship over, that's all. And when you look at auto radical ship is happening and what couldn't have happened twenty years ago. Gay marriage, weed is legal around the country, is decriminalized other places. Bail is going. I mean should we should? Is moving the right way? So how did seem focus to a party? It doesn't seem like everybody's thinking, oh, this is going on, so we should form a separate party. We don't need to that. I just said I don't care about the part Green Party and ship. I don't like the Green Party. It's a bunch of white they asked me to run. Last time, I didn't run. I turned I turned it down. That's why that's how Jill Stein ended up running because I knew y'all gonna be looking at me like that. Y'all like that, I want to be allowed the Bruce picnic. How does the want how does you want to even come to the decision that we're gonna choose you to do it? Like? How did that? Asks? Kind of how the Green Party does it. It was just like we were at a Green Party convention, which is the last small on the roof picnic, and we were sitting there. We were smoking to right and all the Green Party Party. That's why it is. But you don't know if that's for free everybody the Green Party smoke. If they would have said that, they would have everybody come on. Man, First of all, thank you for saying it. Mark, So he was it was like, yo, they say you should you should run, And I was like, no, I'm good. I got other ship going on and don't pay no money, And I don't want black people looking at me like that. I don't think black people would have been looking at you. Suck up. If you wait, they're not gonna be up for voting the Green Party, tell me if I ran. But I think that's different. I think if you run for something, that's you, that's putting skin in the game. Like, I think that's something you're saying, Like, listen, I'm gonna step up, I'm gonna make the change. Whatever. Voting for motherfucker you know ain't gonna win. Like, I think that that's why they look at it. Everywhere. Black people harassed me about the if I bought a bag of we'd be like what you think about the Green Party? Vote? Like right now, if I run for president, No, I'm good. That ain't my call. That ain't my thing. That ain't my thing. What is your thing? Yeah? What's the end game of Dr Mark Lamont Hill? Now that you like? I like like, I like creating stuff. I like writing books, I like speaking, I like you know, doing work TV shows. I had a TV show for like six weeks. Yeah, okay, TV show, Nay. This Nick is like Drake with the dis already cannon ship. I got five things go ahead A first of all, march La mount Hill is my brother. I admire him. I'm not gonna sit up here in this nobody. However, I had a question. However, listen, I had a question nigga the R Kelly interview, Yes, what just what? What? What was going through in my life? When he just got him walk up like, nigga, what was that? I wasn't there. That's everybody keeps sinking. I was at the interview that was that was Caroline empty and everybody's like, why you ain't do then interview? Why I was you s like I hadn't worked there in two years? Okay, So I was going I wanted to do the interview. I tried to do R Kelly interview two years before. Okay. He sent me the albums. He said, I want you listen to all my music as if I hadn't heard it, and he was like, I want you to do this interview is for his best stub album. And I said, I gotta ask you a question about uh, you know what, what are you talking about? Nigger? Come on, you know the right step in the name of love it people can't right, So you know what, it's got a tough one. And I said, yeah, I gotta ask the question. And he was like, I don't answer questions about that. That stuff is over. We've dealt with that and then then left he hung up the phone. We ain't talk, sence. I ain't seen our Kelly talk his promises just had blind trust or whoever? Who was the woman that in the Caroline Moderaci Tehran? I forgot, yeah, I forgot it was he? It was it was it was Iranian woman? I think, yeah, yeah, that was ever? Ever? Do you like young girls talking? How are we talking? Said? How young were talking? Now That's how this is the most rapid fire question. This is great, this is great. Kanye did the Green Party to R Kelly? Y know, I love it, But no, man, I feel you. I don't. I think like running. I don't. I just don't think that people would look at you funny. If you're in I understand why you want to for office. And then Donald Trump became president for a second turn, what would y'all do? Who? Because you think he would beat you? Questions? We can do you think this could happen twice? That's what I think this is out of We're clearly seeing the results of of ricking the election like that the season season three of Scandal, where you know, I hate to bring it there, but I'm just saying that this is this is more. I don't think this is just about like, well, you know, white people, white women voted Trump, and I feel even that our election system has been rigged and tamper with. So yeah, yes, exactly, So it's I think it's even beyond that. So so here's how you fix it. You get rid of electoral college. Ye, he's that voting happened for seven days, You have a national day off to vote, and the person with the most votes wins. That ship seems real simple to me. I think it'd even be better if you just made like a concert or festival or something like vote fest, like how you like like yeah, like how used to had a bud while the superfest and we can get Charlie Wilson just happen before come vote. Yeah, get some barbecue picnic either way. Yeah, I'm with it. But now that that makes that makes sense. This is a popular vote. Whoever the people want to win should be president. Like this shouldn't complicated, Like you not even just care about the mid terms at this point then, because we got to care about the mid terms. I was asking you, That's what I was saying, every like the mid terms, that's the ship that actually matters just like state elections matter. Like that's how you'll end up without without bathrooms for gay people that are transgender. Fo, that's how you end up with schools funked up. That's how you know what library? Oh yeah, it is with the way that social media is so rapid and and so quick, like this interview, how can you yes? How how how do you decide on which causes to get behind when you it's almost like gun to your head. You know, we want instant I mean people want instant Kanye reviews in thirty seconds and listening. How do you have the time to thoroughly look up research on who you're going to champion because you've done a lot of social justice work for for people to get fair trials even outside of Pennsylvania whatnot, like outside the country. So how I think the key? Oh, I think that there are independent organizations now that will help with that. That's one thing you do. Um. The second thing is you I think there has to be a list of issues that we care about that we prioritize as a community and doesn't have to be all black people don't see the same, but it's some ship we all care about. Closing down prisons, funding public education, reducing taxes for for for what is it closing down prisons or reform in prison. I'm gonna have abolitionists. I want to I want to shut them all down. And so how do you treat how do you treat justice? That you just need to be in jail? But I disagree, I disagree. So what's the what's the alternative coffee table book? Something? Need to be a jail? That's straight up. But okay, so I'm here, I'm curious to hear your everybody asks me. All right, so a couple of things, right, So I'll tell you the fast answer. The way you shut down all prisons. One, you funded things to stop people from going to prison. Right, People go to prison when they don't have books, when they have schools, when they have arts, when they don't have big brothers, big sisters, we don't have sports all that ship, right, So you invest in ship that stops you from going to prison. The next thing you do is you decarceerrate you get people out of prison. How do you do that? Bail? Eighty percent of people who are in jail right now now prisoner jail because they can't afford to not be in jail exactly, proud of exact times in right. So so you decarcerate, work released, supervised study, community based dispute resolution. If I still your TV right, I don't need to sit in the cage for two years. You still ain't got no TV right. We have to find a way to make you whole again. Um decars and in excarceration, which means no longer using the prison as the primary mechanism to resolve things. So I hear the prison thing. So somebody okay, so somebody does something like they kill somebody? Is it's near to you? Dear to you, God forbid? What do you do? See? That's the wrong question. People always ask that, right, what don't mean what do you do? Like? What do you go? I don't know. But but whenever people decide a public policy, right some ship like the deaf, they be like, what would you do with somebody with your house murdered, your whole family, killed your dog? Because they want to get you so charged? No, no, no, I don't. First all, I don't believe in the death penalty like I don't. I'm not definite, But I believe in jail like I don't. Why why does the thing all right, so you love in the genesis? How much is out there? Mark? So if you look, I think I see your point because if you look at the history of police or the each mob or justice, it was grounded in slavery. Absolutely, and so you know already the seeds of our justice system is already Yeah, is corrupt, so exactly. But that's it doesn't do anything. But that's a lot what you're saying. Like it's the simpleness of the sentences, but the work that it would take to convince these people, but they're doing in Australia. Yeah, I read a report this morning Atli's murder rate was crazy and they dealt with gun control and suddenly there there stuff that crimes. Another great idea you had Australia. He disrespected the ship out of him, did he? Yeah, President, of course. Wow. Yeah, that's another thing, Like I just don't know. I don't know, man, Maybe maybe I don't know if we'll see it in our lifetime maybe like our kids we are saying in our lifetime though. That's the thing. Abolition is happening when you get rid of the baial system in the federal level like Obama did, when you give it a privatized prisons when you start giving drug treatment cause white is gonna heroin and opiois. They didn't switch it up. Now let's moving towards switched it on them too, Like he said, I was gonna help y'all out to He said the opioid folks too. He Wow, I did not know that. Yes, yes, damn white folks they in trouble too. So let's let's album. That's what I wanted to know about. I'm talking pushing. The album is amazing by the way, I love it album, But what about the beef? That's what I want to know about. As artists? Where you all at with that? Listen, bro, let me say this. Once you mentioned a man's fiance on record, anything goes. You know what's funny? You can't like push your te is a forty one year old nigga with braids in a year of our Lord eighteen, And you're gonna mention that from a Viginia he from the south here country like no, no, real Virginia. Like yeah, you mentioned that man's fiance by name, first and last name. She nah, Bro that that you don't do that, or if you do that, you have to be prepared for whatever the funk comes next, including missing children. Yes, nigga, I mean I just seem like the next level you kids. So I kind of briefly spoke to him just a little bit of you know, I told him, I told him, I told him, no, I told him, like, I'm switchling in this joint. You Yeah, totally out. But I will say but I will say that extra the extra because I'm just disgusted with your absolutely fatherhood and whatever. Where he said like, you know, make her your world or whatever. Yeah, I was like that was super ignorant, like you know, yeah, because it's like that's the first time I laughed at it this, Like I normally don't laugh at this, normally, mouths open, like what the hell you just say? But you know, I don't. I don't know because it's it's like I don't feel as though gunplay is gonna happen or whatever happened to Uh, what's his name is this morn in New York? Oh, chief keep got shot, but he didn't get shot. Happen every day, I'm sure. But is it as bad as super ugly because that was kind of the standard of too far? You know what? Super Okay, I had this, I had to this debate one of my homies, super Ugly Jay caught the backlash from that because NAS hadn't taken it to that level. You know what I'm like, up until that point, it was just simple rap ship like they got rapped better than you, you ugly whatever. If you think physical at us whatever, like I mean, that's that's just playing the dozens. I mean, first off, he said, he said five got you out because you keep your face in a pus. That's that's invoking sexual yea, he did, He did say that, but he still didn't cross the line in terms of talking about another person's family members, because he ain't his family members. I mean, still, what do you resources? What do you family members? What do you feel about? What do you feel about? What do you all feel about the hyperbole? What do you feel about the hyperbole of of Like you know, people already say that Drake's desk was like the greatest in Ether or whatever like. For some reason, even I think the idea of ether yea no bigger than Ether fucking sucks. Okay, let me just time real quick. All you name says, raise your hand. I think Ether was a great of that think ether was a great If you can't agree with can you disagree with? Fonte? Raise your hand? Okay, is there and there? I wrote it? Is there an eight in the third digit of your birth year? Is there? Is there an eight in the third digit of your birth year? You gotta understand? Listen, but listen, listen, Let me listeniga. I came up on the era of no vassiline, nigga, ice q this n w a over a fucking disco track, nigga and laid them niggas to waste. It was no fucking this like one brows beat, nigga. That ship whatnot sound I can sound like? Listen, Let's be clear, It's cool, nigga, I do this. I'm I'm not speaking from just that you misremembering some ship? What about remembering it? I did not. I did not like either as a musician. Yeah, I listened to music first, thank you, But lyrically that ship was whatever. That ship was unfund that Nickel was mad. He thought it was trash too. I don't understand this conversation, nigga. That ship was not crash to it's the trash three trash what? Okay? What did I misremember? It was just most of most of the takeover was about mob DP. So even if you take out some of Nozzes week of bars, there's still more content against jay Z then the best ship on eat on on on on takeovers about my deep think about that ship? What with the with you need more people ship? Still people? Should they still on the on the side one hot Yeah, that that breaking down his career made song and made telling me there's not enough comparable his business, his business and facts level of of of whatever his retort was for me, that was enough. I don't know. But then again, you don't people forget about the very first jay Z disk that NAS did Yes three ways, Yeah, that that didn't need to happen. Yeah, but I don't remember that.
