Born on September 26th in1936, the late Winnie Madikizela-Mandela known as “mother of the nation” , remains an icon in South Africa’s political history. Considered a hero, she survived threats, imprisonment, arrest, harassment, 491 days in solitary confinement and two trials. Winnie was an anti-apartheid activist in her own right, in addition to being married to icon and South Africa's first black president, Nelson Mandela. Lerato Mbele is in conversation with the acting chief executive of the Nelson Mandela foundation, Prof. Verne Harris, commissar of the EFF, Mbali Dlamini, art historian, Percy Mabandu and, entrepreneur and founder of FNB Art Joburg, Mandla Sibeko.
