Victor Bogopane, known professionally as Doc Shebeleza, is a Kwaito musician. He was born in 1973 in Soweto. His compositions received a strong response from his audience, resulting in the recognition of several of his songs as national anthems. Songs like "S'kumfete," "Ebumnandini," and "Ghets Ghetsa" gained popularity. South African rapper Cassper Nyovest released a song called "Doc Shebeleza" as a tribute to Bogopane, showcasing his admiration for him. The track highlighted Bogopane's dynamic lifestyle and his impact on his fan base. Reflecting on his experiences, Bogopane offered insights into his activities. Instead of taking advantage of the attention generated by Cassper Nyovest's tribute, he chose to collaborate with Nyovest on his last recorded song, "Monate so," as he concluded his Kwaito career. Bogopane was nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018 at The Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards and resulted in him winning the award by applying a public voting system. In this week’s edition of “In The Spotlight”, we speak to him about his career in the music industry.
