History of African Church UniformsChurch uniforms are a sacred part of religious identity in South Africa and across the continent. In several churches across Southern Africa, members are recognizably identified by their uniforms. In South Africa, these are most notably Zionist churches, Apostolic churches, Pentecostal churches, as well as African sects of traditional churches such as the United Methodist Church. It is believed that most church uniforms from these churches have been influenced by military uniforms. In this week’s Culture Corner, we discuss the history and influences of African church uniforms.
