New Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Velenkosini Hlabisa spoke firmly against dysfunctional municipalities that have even failed to pay salaries. During his Budget Vote speech, Hlabisa highlighted the hurdles faced by local municipalities and said that it is now the job of the 7th administration to turn things around. Calls to restore municipalities are in motion with the ANC among other parties demanding the removal of city mayors of Tshwane and Johannesburg.
