The Zimbabwean government has embarked on a major crackdown on opposition activists. This comes as the country prepares to host the SADC summit now in August. This week alone, police have arrested 8 opposition activists from different political parties for illegal gatherings. Human rights defenders are condemning the arrests and alleged torture of Zimbabweans who called for the release of the opposition activists in late June.
