This past weekend the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) met for its annual policy conference. The PAC, which currently has one seat in parliament, has been known for its messaging around land redistribution, with its President Mzwanele Nyhontso mentioning earlier on in the year that the party aims to restore Africa’s dignity through the revamping of the education system, addressing the housing deficit, ending load shedding and tackling rampant crime in the country. The party was established in 1959 by Robert Sobukwe and was synonymous for its vocation in advocating for political pressure, in Apartheid South Africa, via strikes and boycotts; the most memorable being its sponsoring of a nationwide protest against pass laws – a day we now celebrate as Human Rights Day. In this conversation we want to unpack what the PAC looks like in 2023 as well as assess the outcomes of its policy conference ahead of the 2024 national elections. National Chairman of the PAC Sbusiso Xaba joins Morio Sanyane for the conversation.
