Schools are supposed to be places where children learn, grow and feel protected, but what happens
when the people responsible for teaching them no longer feel safe themselves? From violence and bullying to weapons, drugs and increasingly difficult classroom behaviour, South Africa’s teachers are facing challenges that go far beyond education. So, if we are serious about creating safe schools, shouldn’t protecting teachers be just as important as protecting learners? Kefentse Mkhari is in conversation with Education Activist and Journalist, Galalestang Lelaka to look into what would it take to make South African schools truly safe for everyone?
