We are in conversation with Zak, the creative alter ego of Lagos-born, South Africa-based artist Ayobola Kekere-Ekun. With a background in Graphic Design and advanced degrees in Visual Arts from the University of Lagos, Ayobola is currently pursuing a PhD in Art and Design at the University of Johannesburg. Through Zak, she explores the relationship between material, repetition, movement and time. Using folded lengths of fabric, she creates sculptural paintings that sit somewhere between painting and sculpture, transforming soft, pliable surfaces into intricate landscapes of folds, shadows, colour and texture. We speak to Zak about her work as a contemporary visual artist and solo exhibition called Terrains of Memory.
