Most of us have experienced it at some point;  a comment that sounds like a compliment on the surface, but somehow leaves you feeling slightly undermined. And even though backhanded compliments are quite common in workplaces, and while they may seem harmless, they often reveal deeper dynamics around power, insecurity, and passive-aggressive communication. So why do people make backhanded comments instead of speaking directly? What does it say about workplace culture, and how should you respond if you find yourself on the receiving end?
