Can South Africans actually afford the minimum wage for domestic workers and how can we Dignify Minimum Wage Workers?

View descriptionShare

The debate over domestic worker minimum wages in South Africa sits between extreme economic hardship for workers and severe financial pressure on households. On one hand, domestic workers - many of whom are women and primary breadwinners - face rising costs of food, transport, and housing that far outpace their earnings. We are in conversation with Political social commentator, Xoliswa Jwili and  Pinky Mashiane who is an activist and founder of the United Domestic Workers of South Africa on whether South Africans can truly afford the minimum wage for domestic workers and look at how we can restore dignity to minimum wage workers in a society still grappling with inequality?
