SASSA Increases Grants, Enhances Security

Published Apr 1, 2025, 10:55 AM

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) will begin distributing increased social grants from 1 April 2025, following Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana’s announcement of higher payments. Over 19 million beneficiaries will receive various grants, including the Older Persons pension, Disability, and Child Support grants. SASSA has put in place safeguards to prevent fraud. Beneficiaries must stay vigilant to avoid scams and ensure the legitimacy of payment channels. Ongoing investigations aim to address fraud issues. Managing the new system might present challenges, especially for older or less tech-savvy recipients, though SASSA will likely offer support. There’s also the threat of potential delays in grant disbursements if fraud persists.
