President Cyril Ramaphosa launched the third phase of the Government-Business Partnership, renewing a joint effort to tackle South Africa's persistent economic challenges. The collaboration focuses on achieving an unchanged—and so far elusive—target of lifting economic growth above 3%. Ramaphosa launches phase 3 of government- business partnership — 3% growth goal remains elusive

The government has yet to hire any of the 10,000 promised additional labour inspectors, leaving the expansion completely on hold as of August 2026. In a written Parliamentary reply, Employment and Labour Minister Nomakhosazana Meth revealed that recruitment remains paused while the department waits to secure the necessary budget from the National Treasury.
