Gauteng accounts for most of the births, with 184 newborns but, of great concern is new mothers who are underage. This includes a 13 year-old who gave birth in Seshego, Limpopo. Three 15-year-olds gave birth in Kwazulu-Natal, and a 16-year-old in the North West. This, once again, highlights the crisis of teenage pregnancy in South Africa. The alarming number of teenage pregnancies is tempering festive season celebrations. Five teens gave birth on Christmas Day, including three in KwaZulu-Natal. Tshegohaco Moagi was joined by Basic Education Spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga and Ramphelane Morewane, Acting Deputy Director General for Health Programs.
