SAPS faces more than 4,000 claims of wrongful arrest, costing R2 billion in settling civil cases. RISE Mzansi has now called for accountability. More than 4,000 wrongful arrests were registered by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the 2023/24 financial year, leading to claims exceeding R2 billion. This was revealed by Police Minister Senzo Mchunu in response to a written parliamentary question from RISE Mzansi. Mchunu disclosed that 4,135 wrongful arrests had been registered, averaging around 11 incidents each day.  Thabiso Tema spoke with Dr Lennit Max, Former Western Cape Police Commissioner.

The Minister of Transport, Ms. Barbara Creecy has established a Committee of Aviation Experts to investigate the root cause of problems that have affected the Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) in recent times regarding flight instrument procedures and the delays of flights at various airports.  The Minister has established the Committee in consultation with the ATNS Board.   Thabiso Tema spoke with Phuthego Mojapele, aviation expert.

Joburg residents faced a challenging long weekend without water, but the situation worsened due to acts of vandalism, theft, and attacks on water employees, causing further delays in restoration efforts for the Joburg water outage. Bulk water supplier Rand Water and distributor Johannesburg Water provided updates on Tuesday regarding their weekend maintenance operations. However, restoration timelines have been negatively impacted by multiple criminal incidents, extending the Joburg water outage. Johannesburg Water reported cases of vandalism, theft, and assault against their employees and contractors during the ongoing Joburg water outage. Thabiso Tema spoke with Dr Anja Du Plessis, Water Management Expert and Associate, Professor at the University of South Africa.
