Rafael Nadal’s win caps off an unforgettable Australian Open

View descriptionShare

Rafael Nadal served a thrilling final to the Australian Open on Sunday, beating Daniil Medvedev of Russia in five sets played over a gruelling five hours and 24 minutes.

The 35-year-old Spaniard becomes the first man to win 21 grand slam singles titles, and just a month after contracting Covid-19.

His epic victory caps off an action-packed Australian Open, with women’s singles winner Ash Barty capturing hearts and minds on Saturday and fellow Australians Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis winning the men’s doubles in a dynamic and high-energy match.

Today on Please Explain, sports reporter Scott Spits joins Bianca Hall to recap the tournament’s highlights.
