The Poppy Project at St Peters was formally dedicated and unveiled at the All Saints Day Service on Sunday 2 November.

17,000 poppies are displayed outside and inside the church. We hear from  people involved in the project, bystanders outside taking photographs, the Town Mayor, Cllr Chris Paige, and the Reverend Will Hughes.

The Cascade of knitted  poppies launched at St Peter's service

This week, we are at the British  Red Cross Shop in Swan Street to find out all about how the shop operates.

It was a very wet day outside, but we had the chance to speak to the shop manager Vicky, along with her band of volunteers. 

We even managed to chat to a few customers that braved the weather to come inside to have a browse to see what treasures they could find.

Local news for Tuesday 20th January

A major (though largely internal) renovation of St Peter's Hall, in the Town's conservation area, opposite the Museum, has been granted planning permission.

The Hall is used extensively by the community and local organisations; from residents' meetings to arts and performance as well as groups like Headway and AA; the NHS also held its Rowan Ward consultations there.

The works are now out to tender. 

The Church will provide half of the cost with the rest hopefully coming from grants and donations. 

The hall will be closed for 5 to 6 months around April/May and reopen sometime in October.

St Peter's Treasurer, Steve Hitchmough, speaking to Mike Waddington, explains the project and also preparing for an Diocese Architectural Review of St Peter's Church itself.
