Local news for Monday 27th April

Petersfield Golf Club elects a new president this month and for the first time in it's 124 year history it is a woman. In the Sportlight chats to Lesley Eaton about this historic moment and asks how she sees her new role and what she hopes to achieve. She also shares why she loves the game and her achievements as nine times champion of the annual women's event. https://www.petersfieldgolfclub.co.uk/ . In women's football, Petersfield and Sholing have been running neck and neck in the league for the entire season. One of these teams will be champions. Today they face off against each other. A home tie on Saturday against Ringwood is another step along the path to glory. And also in football but now a relegation battle, Liphook men's side have shown some good form of late. We have Shine Radio's Maggie Buckley speaking to Dr Stephen Buckley about blood pressure.

Amanda Whiteland Smith from Citizens Advice is on hand to tell us all about the new Renters Rights Act that starts in May 2026.

Then it a quick chat to James from the Hampshire Air Ambulance Service.

Finally we take a trip outside of the Petersphere to Alton and speak to Keith Jansz, a Mouth and Foot Painting artist.

We're sharing a wonderful interview created by the International Guide Dog Federation to celebrate International Guide Dog Day 2026.

It features four very different human/guide dog partnerships from all over the world. The interviews go beyond the mechanics of guiding and training, and explore the emotional and social aspects of the relationship.

You may recognise the voice of the host, John Welsman, who co-produces Dogs with Jobs, from our Christmas episode.

We also hear from Jason Denton from Brisbane, Australia; Kirsten French from Washington state, USA, Pauline Eliers from Brussels, Belgium; and Nathan Foy from the UK.
