Petersfield Open Air Swimming Pool is celebrating 60 years in Hi-di-hi fashion.

A wonderful day was had by many keen swimmers and non-swimmers, and Alan Cosh went along to join in the fun and meet the cast of the Yellow Coats, as well as Peggy who isn't a Yellow Coat.

The original Mr Jeffrey Fairbrother (principal actor) was played by Simon Cadell. Simon was educated at Bedales in the 60s.

Our lido celebrates 60 years of outdoor swimming

A throwback to summer... this episode of Dogs with Jobs was recorded at the Hampshire Gun Dog Show in August, which featured around 30 gun dog breeds, from golden retrievers and springer spaniels to rare European gun dog breeds. 

Joy Venturi Rose of the Hampshire Gun Dog Society describes the various events put on by the society, which include open shows, working tests, field trials and training classes.

Joy touches on working breed standards in this succinct, but excellent overview of gun dog breeds, and shares some ideas for keeping your working breed pet happy and stimulated. 

She explains how working breeds need stimulation in their life that uses their brain, and ideally mirrors the sort of work they would have done many dog generations previously.

The Hampshire Gundog Show: an overview of working breeds

Petersfeld Men’s Shed was one of three finalists (out of 1,100 across the country) for Men's Shed of the Year; on this occasion they were runners up.

The Chairman, NIck Broom, spoke to Mike Waddington, about the honour of being shortlisted and the experience of attending the Speaker of the House of Common's State Rooms,

From here they are working on new community projects for Herne Juniors library and covers for farm drinking troughs, which allow cows to drink but stop owls from drowning in them.

Petersfield's Men's Shed: one of the best in England

A government consultation on water resources in our area closed on 4 December.

Richard Knight, who was the Green Party candidate in East Hants in this year's general election, has concerns about plans for a proposed 10 year infrastructure project and importing water from Norway.

He tells Mike Waddington that priorities are wrong. Water Resource Plans deal with legitimate concerns but he’s asking for a rethink. 

Comments can be sent to the Department for the environment, food and rural areas – DEFRA, on  Water.resources@defra.gov.uk (in the subject line: Southern Water revised draft Water Resources Management Plan)
