A former Riviera Beach police officer is facing a first-degree murder charge following a fatal shooting early Sunday outside a bar near Palm Beach International Airport. Circuit Judge Ted Booras on Monday denied bail for Jason Gilbert in the death of Aaron Small. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says the incident between Gilbert and Small began inside the Blue Boar Tavern in suburban West Palm Beach and peaked in the parking lot when Gilbert shot Small. Paramedics took Small to a hospital, where he died. Gilbert was a Riviera Beach officer from 2001 to 2007, and his public defender said at Monday’s hearing he most recently was a security guard. Court records indicate he has no prior arrests for violent crimes in Palm Beach County.
