Intro
To health now...and joining us live from Tonga is Viki Fiefia who leads a group of female bodybuilders who will take part in a competition in Tonga next month.
Welcome Viki. I understand in July, you created an N-G-O, Tonga Women’s Wellness & Sports Association to empower women by equipping them with the knowledge on how to take control of their health, wellness & fitness. Tell us how this started?
The plan is to organize community workshops for women so that they may learn how to eat healthier, strength training classes, and various sports conditioning programs. TWWSA would like to increase female involvement in various sports of their choosing by allowing them access to qualified/experienced coaches/trainers.
Extra
Bodybuilding is one sport lacking in female involvement, which is the main focus at the moment, but the plan is to liaise with other sports female organizations, as well. My vision is to build a facility, compile adequate equipment & resources in which local women can have a safe, positive environment & receive guidance to become more health conscious. The goal is to decrease the non-communicable diseases that are affecting our people & create a healthier Tonga, overall.
In November, we will be competing for the Ms Tonga title with Tonga Bodybuilding Federation (TBBF), which is a separate organization.
They’ve been around for quite some time, and they have never had female representation locally and internationally.
We are looking to change that with this first wave of female bodybuilders.
Arrived in Tonga in 2013 and weight ballooned to 106 kg. I was miserably depressed.
So my journey to the Bodybuilding stage in Tonga began two years ago when I crossed paths with my coach, Australian-Tongan, Emma Livesey.
Emma was the first Tongan women to represent Tonga in Bodybuilding. She was here in Tonga as an advocate for female bodybuilding.
She convinced me to compete. It was then that I began a more structured bodybuilding & eating program through her guidance via on-line. This has been ongoing for the last two years until presently.
Now together, we have joined forces to share our passion by starting a movement of strong warrior goddesses by increasing female participation in the sport of bodybuilding, as well as promoting a healthy lifestyle for all of Tonga.
