531pi has served our Pacific communities since 1993 with a blend of news, views, information and talk back - all combined with a music mix you'll hear nowhere else. During the day, our programmes cater to first and second generation Pacific migrants. After 6 pm, our nine community language programmes serve a different Pacific island each night.

They arrived in Auckland on February 24 aboard the MSN Cruise ship to present ‘Viti kei Rotuma,’ a cultural showcase.

For the first time, this iconic festival expands to two full days at Hagley Park, bringing together 25 Canterbury schools to light up the stage with song, dance, and Pacific energy. It’s a celebration of our tamaiti, our culture, and our unbreakable community spirit.

Joining me to unpack this journey and share what’s coming this March is Riki Welsh, Chairperson of the Spac Pac Canterbury Charitable Trust. Kia ora Riki, and congratulations on 25 incredible years!

Spac Pac Canterbury Polyfest: Celebrating 25 Years of Pacific Pride

We’ve got a truly inspiring guest on Pacific Days today — a woman proving that passion, dedication, and excellence don’t retire with age.

Joining us is Suzanne Jackson, star striker for the mighty North Harbour “Golden Girls” Women’s 65+ hockey team. The team has just secured their third consecutive gold medal at the prestigious Vantage National Masters Tournament — an incredible achievement that speaks volumes about commitment and teamwork.

Off the turf, Suzanne is also a research coordinator at the University of Auckland, balancing academic excellence with elite masters sport. An athlete. A professional. An inspiration.
