New Zealand Police has announced a new trial that will have armed officers working and patrolling during peak demand times, 7 days a week. The 6-month trial will begin in Christchurch, Waikato and Counties Manukau. Police Commissioner Mike Bush says those areas were chosen as its had the most firearms seized, located and surrendered. He says the Armed Response Teams is one of its safety responses to the March 15 Christchurch attack, which has changed Police's operating environment. But it’s not good news for Auckland Councillor Fa’anana Efeso Collins who represents a community he feels will be vulnerable to the new Police trial.
