Salvation Army Social Policy Analyst Ana Ika joined #PacificMornings to discuss changes to the sale and supply of alcohol that gives the community a greater voice on what is offered in their local areas. As well as benefit changes that were implemented from the 1st of April.

The rainbow community in the Hawkes Bay has been at the centre of protest action and abuse, which has resulted in the cancellation of events and vandalism. Shaqaila Uelese, the Co-Executive Director of the Nevertheless Trust, and Annie Kaio, the reigning Miss Samoa Fa’afafine and the Samoa Fa’afafine Association Ambassador, both from Hastings, joined #PacificMornings to talk about how the Pacific rainbow community is coping with those challenges.

Polynesian leaders have signed an historic declaration – He Whakaputanga Moana – calling for whales to be granted legal personhood and outlining a comprehensive plan for their protection. Māori King, Kiingi Tuheitia Pootatau te Wherowhero VII, was party to the signing of the declaration. Kiingitanga Spokesman Ngira Simmonds joined #PacificMornings to share more about the protection plan.
