Elaine Lameta is from the villages of Moata’a and Vaimoso in Samoa.
She is currently the Director of Education for the Tokelau Department of Education and is based in Atafu, Tokelau, but has been in Samoa since March due to border closures. Prior to her current role, Elaine worked for Massey University through an MFAT project on school improvement for Tokelau. Then she lived in Nukunonu for 4 and ½ years and was based at Matiti School.
She has over ten years engagement with Tokelau education working on curriculum, school leadership, teacher development, and of course Tokelau language resources.
Her professional background is in Applied Linguistics with a strong interest in bilingual education, language research and language policy. A graduate of Massey University in Palmerston North and Victoria University of Wellington, her professional grounding was teaching in the NZ classrooms from primary level through to tertiary institutions.
