Bishop Viard College is a co-educational college with 250 students, with over 70% from Pasifika backgrounds, including more than half the school who have Samoan heritage.
Chris Theobald has been the Principal of Bishop Viard College in Porirua since July 2019. After several years of rapid roll decline, Theobald is hoping to turn the school around and help teachers deliver the education that its students deserve, by listening to the community and developing a relationship based, learning approach.
This year the college has brought in a number of strong teachers to complement the existing strengths within the college, this mix of staff has already seen the roll of the school have its first year-on-year increase in 12 years and a new vibrancy emerge that celebrates the cultural heritages within the student body.
