Inspired by the old steamships that brought Pacific Islanders to NZ from the early 20th century — a tribute to their spirit of hope.  Banana Boat Records ® is the official arts arm of Banana Boat ®.

Artist, Hools is here to talk more about BB's request for supporting an important documentary that speaks to NZ Pacific History.

What started as a project on the 1970s Dawn Raids quickly grew into something much bigger than  ever anticipated. Banana Boat Records team have been able to sit down with people who had lived through defining moments in Aotearoa’s history—people with stories that don’t often make the headlines.

Now working on their first documentary with limited resources, they have managed to capture something powerful—something we believe is worth sharing. Along the way uncovering stories about the formation of gangs in New Zealand and the social conditions that led there. Also gaining rare insights into what was happening within the police force at the time, shared by someone on the inside. They are  now seeking a small amount of financial support to help us bring this documentary to completion. Specifically, we need funding to:

  • License archival footage (e.g., from Ngā Taonga)

  • Complete post-production (sound design, colour grading, and final edits)

• Donate directly: https://www.thearts.co.nz/boosted/make-a-donation?projectId=277948
