Andrew Matautia - Photography as a tool for indigenous people to explore their own cultural backgrounds.

Andrew Matautia, of Saint Andrew Photography is an artist of Samoan descent based in Wellington, Aotearoa.

Matautia’s photography practice was initially a business endeavour. But after using it as a research tool in his postgraduate studies, it has become a medium of self-expression.

He has produced a range of photographic works including Sauniga (2017) exhibited by Tautai in Auckland; and currently has his work featured in exhibitions -  Te Taiao, Nature, Curator’s Choice 21 and Faka-Tokelau.  His work on display at Te Papa was connected to a Climate change related project in Tokelau.

Andrew believes photography is understanding how to use a camera to tell stories.
