WCPT 820 Interview: Jay Kuo of Human Rights Campaign

View descriptionShare

Scott Duff and Ellen Miller are joined by Jay Kuo, two-time Tony-winning co-producer and composer; CEO and founder of The Social Edge (a social media and digital publishing company based in New York City); author of The Status Kuo Substack newsletter; and member of the board of directors for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC).

Kuo discussed his journey into activism, inspired by his trans nephew's appearance on "60 Minutes" a few years ago. He highlighted HRC's focus on flipping the House, electing pro-equality senators, and increasing LGBTQ representation. HRC has invested $15 million in the midterms, aiming to flip eight House seats. Kuo emphasized the importance of local races, noting the existence of 528 bills "targeting LGBTQ rights right now across the country." He criticized Republican tactics of targeting marginalized groups and stressed the need for visibility and community involvement. Kuo urged listeners to register to vote and vote early to counteract potential election tampering.
