Culture steers women, from day one of their lives, toward motherhood. Despite all the gains women have made, they still face enormous pressure and expectations to become mothers.
A childfree woman is often viewed as “unnatural” or “selfish,” and it is typically assumed that something went wrong over the course of her life that caused her to turn her back on her reproductive destiny. Many childfree women feel stigmatized, misunderstood, and alone.
