Teaching is often described as a calling because it requires passion and dedication, and can be a rewarding profession.
This is evident in the work of one teacher in South Africa's Eastern Cape province.
Last week,on the day the county's matric results were released, Songezo Mtati wrote on social media: 'Finally I managed to get 100% in MATHEMATICS. I’ve been fighting for this. Thanks to you all, Class of 2024.' According to reports, very few of the more than 2,000 learners at Walmer High School, a no-fee township school in Gqeberha, wanted to do pure maths until Mtati, who was only 26 years old at the, came to class — with a plan.
We spoke to him about what it takes to achieve such remarkable results.
