Impact of the ZiG currency

View descriptionShare

Zimbabwe has introduced a new currency that is now gold-backed. They have called it the ZiG, which stands for Zimbabwe Gold.

However, since the introduction of ZiG currency locals have been struggling as local businesses, transport and government services have not been accepting the old notes.

This is despite the fact that the new ZiG bills will only be available by the end of April if all goes well.

Today we look at the impact the new Zimbabwe currency has on the ordinary person in the streets of Harare and elsewhere. We are joined by Dzikamai Bere, from the Zimbabwe Human Rights Association.
