How women-led night walks are transforming SA communities

View descriptionShare

In 2022, a Professor at South Africa's (SA) University of Cape Town, Amrita Pande, started hosting Women Walk at (Almost) Midnight. The walking group started relatively small and has recently grown into more than 100 participants.

The walks are challenging patriarchal norms and creating safe, inclusive space for women to exercise their right to freedom of movement.
These walks were inspired by similar walks in New Delhi several years ago.

We spoke to Prof. Pande about this initiative.
