The Garda Commissioner and the Government are facing criticism over the decision not to allocate any additional gardaí to the Sligo-Leitrim Garda Division.
A total of 207 new officers were sworn in on Friday, with 27 of them set to be assigned to the North West region.
However, it was later revealed that none would be stationed in Sligo or Leitrim, with just one officer set to be assigned to Ballyshannon.
The majority of the new gardaí allocated to the region are to be stationed in the Louth, Cavan and Monaghan areas.
Councillor Michael Clarke said that last Friday marked one year since three men were sentenced for the manslaughter of Tom Niland. He added that people in rural areas still do not feel safe due to a lack of Garda presence.
