The National Transport Authority is facing pressure to provide a bus to Carraroe Retail Park in Sligo. 

The retail park which is home to various shops and a crèche, is now fully occupied and yet there is currently no public transport serving it, despite promises previously made. 

It's thought there's a big appetite locally for a bus to facilitate the area. 

Fine Gael Cllr Thomas Walsh says it's hugely frustrating for the local community not to have such a service in place:

NTA facing pressure to provide bus to Carraroe Retail Park in Sligo

There's renewed concern over the level of overcrowding at Sligo University hospital at the height of summer. 

It comes as the hospital was the second most overcrowded in Ireland today, with 47 people awaiting admission this morning. 

The hospital is only surpassed only by Limerick at 94. 

It has sparked major concern ahead of the winter months, where overcrowding at Sligo and elsewhere is traditionally at its worst. 

Local Fianna Fail Cllr Donal Gilroy says better year round planning is clearly needed:

There are further calls on Sligo County Council to re-enter the waste collection market.

 

It comes as the Government has postponed the publishing of a feasibility study it commissioned on replacing the current system.

 

The proposed system would give bin companies responsibility for an entire geographic area rather than competing for customers on the same street.

 

But local People before Profit Cllr Gino O'Boyle has reiterated calls for the local authority in Sligo to given the opportunity  to provide some of the service locally as part of the expected overhaul:

It comes as a new report suggests that Sligo has the highest GP coverage per capita in the country.

 

The County has a range of 121 to 125 GPs per 100,000.

 

However only in recent months, serious concern was raised over GP shortages, particularly south of the County.

 

It was claimed then that many in south Sligo were struggling to access the service locally.
