Government urged to reconsider fuel support for farmers

With warnings being sounded that fuel prices could hit two euro thirty cent per litre in January a Sligo Leitrim TD says the government need to urgently reconsider supports and rebates for farmers and Argi contractors.

Deputy Martin Kenny TD, claims that with only 27 million being paid out under the Fuel Support Scheme serious questions about the design of the scheme have to be asked.

The Sinn Féin spokesperson on Agriculture and Food says €85 million was ear marked for farmers and contractors, he says inadequate payments and failure to pay sufficient support payments will cripple many farmers and contractors.

The Leitrim based TD says carbon increases must also be stalled by the government until there is stability in the Middle East:
