Enoch Godongwana announced a temporary R3 per litre cut to the fuel levy to cushion consumers from sharp fuel price increases. The reduction applies from 1 April to 5 May 2026, lowering petrol and
diesel levies significantly. The move is aimed at easing pressure on motorists as global oil
prices rise due to geopolitical tensions, including in Iran. The relief measure is expected to cost government about R6 billion in lost tax revenue over one month.
