NFL Network Insiders Tom Pelissero, Ian Rapoport, Judy Battista & Mike Garafolo discuss Packers QB Jordan Love deciding not to practice until he gets a new contract along with other news around the NFL including Joe Burrow being cleared for full contact, Ja’Marr Chase’s contract talks and how the Vikings QB competition plays out. Jeff Chadiha discusses a few Chiefs training camp storylines, Steve Wyche on the Ravens and 49ers TE George Kittle joins the Insiders.
You want a training camp quad box, You've got a training camp quad box. Patrick Mahomes going deep to Xavier Worthy for Shon Bateman catching one down field in Baltimore, the Packers are on the field, the Seahawks are on the field, and right here on this show we are all.
Together as well. Welcome inside with the inside.
The Fallhouse a full roster right here alongside Ian Rabinsbord, Judy Batista, and Mike Garafolo. I am Tom Tellicero, No Lamar Jackson. In that Ravens clip right there, he's out ill for the second straight day. We'll get it a little bit more into that. Talk about the Ravens later on in the show. We got some training camp battles beginning to heat up at the quarterback position. Maybe a little bit of clarity coming how things are going to start out at least in Minnesota. Well, it's got a big time guest forty nine ers tight end George Skittle, the perennial pro bowler, going to be with us right here on this show in a little bit. He joined Ian and Judy earlier on today. But let's start out in Green Bay where Jordan Love not a part of that little highlight. You saw right there, Josh Jacobs on the field, Christian Watson's on the field, Jordan Love on the field, but not dressed for practice. That's because his contract not yet done in green Bay. Although green Bay GM Brian goodecun certainly sounded an optimistic tone on the subject.
It's important for him to be out there, obviously, you guys know how important practice is, and you know working with his teammates. So but as of now, until we get that resolved, you know, he will not be practicing. He'll be taking part in he reported last week. It's taking part in everything.
Else, all right.
So when Brian goodecoun says Ian that they are close, as we all know, there is no such thing as close. You either have a deal or you don't have a deal. But certainly there's been progress. It's pretty obvious at this point the point that they need to get there. It's when, not if. We still are left wondering when Jordan Love will have a deal.
The biggest question for the Packers in the last I don't know, three or four however many years, is really is Jordan Love the air parent to Aaron Rodgers and is he going to be the franchise guy. They are very very close to solidifying now with the kind of big money, massive extension that's starting quarterbacks and frankly star quarterbacks get We've seen a couple of them this offseason. No doubt Jordan Love is going to join them. That question of is he going to get a deal really does not need to be answered. Just listening to the words of gentleman jer Brian Gudikinz, it's really just a matter of how much and does he become the highest paid does he eclipse Joe Burrow If he gets a long term deal, it's a little bit of a shorter deal. Money comes down a little bit, gets another bite at the apple much quicker. There's a couple different ways to figure out this deal, and it does sound like they are not there yet. But for the Packers, who they're going to have to practice without Jordan Love in the meantime, that is an okay problem because the bigger questions are on the way to get an answered.
It sounds like it's coming soon now as soon as relative right, could soon be hours, days, weeks. I'd probably measure it in days. And you can hear the confidence that the Packers have in this one.
Why are you waving at me? What did I do? Would I say anything wrong?
No?
I don't know. Anyway, It's gonna be a big number.
And the top of the quarterback market with Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow is at fifty five million dollars per season.
Could Jordan Love exceed that? Yeah? Could?
And you may say that's crazy, he's only got one.
Year of starting experience. Well, you know what if you don't do it now?
And he goes out and he's second in the NFL and touchdown passes again, that numbers only going up next year.
And the Packers understand that.
And the Packers have shown the confidence in him all along the way by drafting him, by turning it over to him, and getting rid of Aaron Rodgers, so that confidence and everything that they showed comes back to them at the negotiating table. It's like, okay, now, sign to pony up the dollars and show the competence. And one more thing on the confidence duty, the allowing of the hold in. I always think that that's a sign of good faith for a team in the middle of a contract negotiation. It shows confidence in them. Are in love from the team that they believe he'll be okay despite any misrep.
Well, this seems to be the most respectful, like least angst ridden. Big time contract is the contribution that we've seen this offseason. I mean for the player to walk out literally chatting with the head coach to begin his hold in tells you everything you need to know about the dynamic right now in Green Bay. They are obviously very confident this is going to get done.
There's no ill will right now.
Another thing to keep in mind if you are a Packers fan and saying, oh no, he's going to miss practice time, that's never good, especially for a young quarterback. Remember the very beginning of training camp now is that ramp up period, So he's not really missing anything significant in terms of practice. They get into the heavy duty practice later on.
If this gets.
Done in the next few days, Jordan Love is not even going to miss anything of great significance and all of this will be behind them by the time they get into the nitty gritty of football.
You can never do necessarily deals in the exact order of priority. Certainly Jordan Love priority number one for the Packers, but Ian there's more than one guy on the team. Packers got another deal done yesterday.
They did a big time deal for a big time defensive star. Maybe not a household name. If you watch Green Bay Packers football, you know how good Kenny Clark is at football. And he has been paid already in his career. He got a big time extension just a couple of years in. Now he gets another one three years, sixty four million dollars on the highest paid defensive lineman in the NFL for the nose tackle gets twenty nine million dollars in year one in this deal done by Doug Henderson and C. J. O'boy of Wasserman and for the Green Bay Packers. You're right, it's obvious Jordan lovers priority number one making sure that Kenny Klirk was paid. And this is a guy, brid Gudegud said today he wishes all players were like He's a leader, he's a locker room guy, he loves football. Getting this done was very important to them.
All right, Ian, Mike Judy stick around more with you in just a moment here as we go back to Green Bay. One of the great training camp traditions in the entire NFL, the riding of the bikes to and from practice. They've been doing this in Green Bay for a long long time, and if memory serves, I believe I've seen Stacy Dales doing a similar ride to that once upon a time. On our Inside Training Camp coverage, which begins with Back Together Weekend this Saturday and Sunday, rolling into itc one week from now, Stacy joining us. You listen to Brian Goodakunz today, Stacey, he speaks the first day of training camp every year. What did you make of his words and also what he's specifically said about Jordan Love.
Well, as we all expected. Tom, no concern on my end. By the way, just a quick shout out to Mooch if you're watching Mooch go ash wobbinon right little bobblehead action. Mooch sent me that recently I beat him on the bikes. By the way, Tom a few years ago, so I'm real proud of that.
Listen.
I want to remind everybody that the Green Bay Packers last season were the youngest team in the National Football League. Not only that they were the youngest team in the Super Bowl era, the youngest roster, I should say to win a playoff game. Jordan Love is at the helm of all this the reason they have not come to a deal in Green Bay. And frankly, I'm quite surprised that it is training camp week, to start of training camp week for the Packers and they didn't get it done and slightly disappointed. I'm sure Matt Lafleur also slightly disappointed Tom because he found out yesterday as he revealed this morning. But the reason they haven't gotten this thing done yet is because they are concerned for the long term. Jordan Love is twenty five years old. Again, they were the youngest roster in the NFL last season. They are thinking long term in green Bay. They believe they have a win ready team right now. In fact, they believe in Green Bay they have a championship caliber roster, they have the culture put together, they have the talent put together. They believe around Jordan Love to win right now. But Brian Gudekunst, he is a man that is, i would say in this league, conservatively aggressive. He knows what he wants, but he's going to take his time and make sure everything gets done the right way for the long term. A couple of the things that I found very optimistically, you sort of gauging if you will. That he said, is they have confidence that both sides want the same thing.
He said, we're close.
So those are two really good things.
And he said and declared, we know that Jordan Love is our franchise quarterback. They're all in on love. They want to make sure down the road this roster and the money's surrounding all of their players makes sense. And then I think they pulled the trigger and like Mike Garrifolo, I think it's days and they get it done because shoot, you know this, Tom Malifleur wants that guy on the field. I'll just remind you real quick. From weeks eleven to eighteen last season, he led the NFL in both passyards and passing touchdowns. He was second last season with thirty six thirty two, I should say passing touchdowns, I believe behind Dak Prescott. So they're all in on love.
Thank you, Stacy, and thank you to bobble Head mooch. Look forward to hearing more from the both of you, well, at least hearing from one seeing the other. You know exactly where I'm going very very soon. The Bengals also, of course, have their franchise quarterback that is Joe Burrow, who missed the end of last season because of an elbow injury. Significant news out of Cincinnati today coach Sack Taylor's saying Burrow has been cleared for contact. We know what they limited his throws a little bit in the spring, just easing him back into action, but no limitations out there's still like a touch your franchise quarterback in training camp when it's time for the contact to come. No restrictions on Joe Burrow. As we welcome back in Mike ied Ian, Andy Judy, We've got a situation where Joe Burrow. We've seen him at his best, We've seen him go to a Super Bowl. We've also seen him deal with a lot of injuries here in recent years. A fully healthy, fully cleared Joe Burrow, what are your expectations for twenty twenty four.
Well, we know if Joe Burrow is fully healthy and on the field, they are a super Bowl caliber team, especially because they have t Higgins and Jamar Chase still together with him. But that is the big question. How are they going to manage Burrow and can you stay on the field. If there's any negative about Joe Burrow, and I mean there really are not many negatives about Joe Burrow as a quarterback. It is the question about his durability. The last time he talked before the break here this summer, he spent a lot of time talking about how he's managing his body and the different things he's doing to manage his body, and trying to keep sort of the long rain goal in mind that it's a really long season and he needs to get through the season and he needs to be healthy and playing well at the end of the season and going into the playoffs if this team is going to have a chance. So going into training camp and then certainly going into the season, I'm really interested to see how the Bengals manage him because managing him is going to be important.
Certainly.
His instinct we saw last year, is to go all out all the time. He wants to be on the field no matter how he feels physically. It's going to be on the Bengals to maybe pull him back a little bit, especially in training camp and in the preseason, to manage him to keep him healthy.
Ian We also heard from Bengals owner Mike Brown today, the ever reclusive Mike Brown.
It talks to reporters.
As Judy point on our caller earlier today, one time a year at the luncheon, he had some interesting things to say in clean on Jamar Chase, saying that they're going to bend over backwards to get that deal done. He chased for the long haul. It doesn't necessarily sound like anything is going to come quickly.
No.
At it's face, the comments were good. It was positive. I mean, he declared Jamar Chase a big time priority for the organization. Didn't say the same thing for Ti Higgins, which really makes you wonder about his future in the organization after this year. On the franchise Tach, I doubt they would tag him again. Topic for a different day. This is about Jamar Chase and the fact that they want to get a deal done. But Mike Brown I would say, not that optimistic about getting one that did. This is time of year it's tough to do deals. Which it's not really true. They did a deal with Joe Burrow around this time a couple of years back or whatever. Said he's not going to rule it anything, but this is really when players get focused on football. That to me sounds like doing it after three years like the Vikings tried and were unable to do with Justin Jefferson. It's just it's hard. It's hard, and so even though Jamar Chase wants his money, he's going to want and now we'll see if he's there how we we'll see how he reacts to it. But it does sound and gets a challenge that Mike Brown thinks might be a little too difficult right now to get done.
We also heard a little bit from another franchise quarterback we haven't seen a whole lot on the field because he played four snaps last season. Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who of course was there throughout the course of OTAs, was not there for the mandatory mini camp that drew a lot of scrutiny. Will hear more from Rogers when he reports the camp on Tuesday and speaks to reporters. But he was on the Pardon Might Take podcast and said, in part, the thing that people don't understand was that when I was in the NFC North years ago, it was five practices in three days.
Now it's not mini camp.
They could arbitrarily put a tag on whatever week OT is they want and say this is the mini camp week, which makes it mandatory than the other weeks, but it was an OTA schedule A lot of words, Mike to basically say, Aaron Rodgers didn't think it was important for him to be there, so he wasn't there.
What do you make of it? What he's saying is what I agreed with at the time.
All the practices that he had before during OTAs which were technically optional, not technically they were optional, he was there for those. These practices during mini camp are just like those practices.
So would you.
Rather he have been there for the only two mandatory practices of the spring and miss everything else, or would you rather him get all that other work in the spring and then miss the mandatory part. Now, the Jets had an awkward situation because it was just a trip, and they can't really excuse it because it was some kind of a family emergency or something like that, especially because Hassan Reddick at the time was holding out for contractual reason. So the Jets, I thought, walked a pretty good line here. And I say that because they didn't tick off Rogers by highlighting him.
They had to make it clear.
I mean, obviously the media was going to know that he wasn't there for these practices, so he's not ticked off about it.
He didn't seem concerned about it. Judy.
He's going to talk about it again tomorrow, like Tom said, and then that's it, like that storyline is going away.
Now it's time to see Aaron.
Rodgers back on the field practicing with the Jets and getting ready for a season.
I actually did not think that was the most interesting thing Aaron Rodgers said in that interview. I thought the most interesting thing he said was he was asked about how long he's going to play, how much longer? And he said, I don't know, I'm not sure. And he said this one for sure, meaning this upcoming season, and then he said, I wanted to do two good ones to give us a chance to retire a Jet win two super Bowls. So, okay, last year, we know, obviously was a disaster with the Achilles injury, and you know, the first five minutes of the season. So if he's saying this one for sure, that all of a sudden opens up the question of is this it for Aaron Rodgers? No matter how it goes, is it possible that we don't see him back next year? He wants to win two Super Bowls for the Jets, which obviously would be incredible given the Jets history. If they could get one, I think that would be an absolute gift. But I thought that was really interesting from Aaron Rodgers, sort of opening the door before this season even starts to the possibility that this could be it.
Yeah, impossible for us to go into the season. I'd have some doubt about from Aaron Rodgers whether he's going to play in two years or whatever. I remember we started this thing thinking it'd be two years for the Jets and then that would be it, and then he got injured. Maybe we read the timeline. I have different questions though, he's going to Egypt in the summer. Like, I know it's cool that people go places, and I went to Greece, but I thought maybe a trip to the Dali Lama. Again, didn't that seem weird to anybody else? It's too hot.
I'm just more fascinated with the idea that mandatory is really a state of mind. I'm going to try to use that next time I have one of those online safety training courses. Although recent days events, maybe those things are a little bit more important than I might have estimated before. Meanwhile, other quarterback news out of Minnesota the Vikings reporting the rookies and veterans now in training camp, including their new quarterbacks Sam Donald and JJ McCarthy. Kevin O'Connell said Donald is going to take the majority of reps when training camp began, despite of course, the fat they traded up to take McCarthy at number ten overall, Mike, probably not a surprise that Donald starts out atop the jet chart.
Based on where we.
Stand right now, and granted we are in late July, we haven't taken a single repon training camp.
We haven't seen in the preseason.
I would not be shocked at all if we get to week one and Sam Donald is the starter. They gave him solid backup money bridge quarterback type money. From everything I've heard, he's had a really good spring. They're not going to rush the timeline on JJ McCarthy, though we also know if McCarthy lights it up in the preseason, we'll have some interesting conversation.
Well, that's the part we don't know, So we can't sit here and pretend like we do know. We're gonna have to watch the preseason games, watch him on NFL Network. We roll them all the time. You'll be able to see them here, will you see? JJ McCarthy makes a staging the place to make some noise and threatened Sam Donald possibly, But outside of that, everything's been pointing towards Sam Donald being the starter for Week one for a few reasons, not the least of which is that they believe that Sam Donald has the ability to be a good starting quarterback in this league, and now with these targets around him, with this offensive coaching staff.
Like this is the time. There's no more excuses or anything with Sam Darnold. This is the best.
Situation by far that he has had in his NFL career. So let's see if he can show that promise that made him the number three overall pick years ago. The other thing with McCarthy, and this was leading into the draft to talk, he came from this pro style offense under center, running the football, all that stuff working off of that, so that made him pro ready, but he also wasn't leaned on as much as some of these other guys in the NFL. You're gonna have to throw it forty times for four hundred yards. He hasn't really done that in the past, so he's got some learning to do as he comes along here.
I'm also gonna make an admission.
I don't know if we can get that social of the Vikings quarterback entering the facility video one more time. I was watching out of the corner of my eye. I hadn't seen it. I still have to watch it for five seconds. Don't know if that was JJ McCarthy or Sam Darnold, which I love A good Spider Man meme type of a quarterback situation is that that's McCarthy, right, You easily remember when they had the Josh McCown Sam Darnold next to each other on the bench with the Jets and they're both doing the same thing to their hair. The Vikings have recreated it. They're just going to hold close or winning the gains that is Je said in those days. All right, we'll be back, and you know what else is back? Football is back. Celebrate by watching his teams across the league take the field for training. Camp Back Together Weekend presented by YouTube TV. Catch the action on NFL Network, NFL Plus, ABC, and ESPN. The Chiefs one of the early starting teams because they, of course play in the kickoff game against the Ravens. Can they make it a three peat? Or could the forty nine Ers make another run at the Chiefs.
And this time finish the job.
We got just the guy to answer that question. Forty nine Ers tight end George Kittle, the pro bowler is joining the.
Show a little bit later.
Stick around, it's all in the instives.
Thirteen seconds to go, twenty two to nineteen San Francisco. A touchdown wins the game. Hi got touch Bright bunch ed Shuttle, Tom and Jerry Roy Yellow got Tomano play action fake.
Right side trow Tuckstown, CHUSA.
Say to back super Bowl champion the Kansas City Chiefs.
Back to back, Baby, that's another set back. Hey, we're not done, dog.
I want three. I want back to back and back. Patrick Mahomes has some new targets. There's one of them. Hollywood Brown Chiefs camp already in mid season four May Reid. With those early morning practices, they'll have the pads on soon enough. Chiefs one of the early reporting teams because as we are counting down to their opener, the NFL season opener against the Baltimore Ravens. Welcome back to the Insiders, Tom Pelliicero, now joined from Kansas City by our guy, Jeffrey Chedia. Jeff, you just saw Hollywood Brown making plays. We showed Xavier Worthy with a notable catch in camp earlier in the show. What are you hearing so far about Worthy? The first round pick and the speed element that he coupled with Hollywood and everybody else can bring to this offense.
Tom, I can tell you there is a ton of excitement about Hollywood Brown, especially Xavier Worthy. They love what he brings in terms of speed, his ability to play different positions, and the way he's rebounding from a hamstring injury that really plagued him in many camps and OTAs. He's been able to really get after it. You shoe the deep speed here. They love his ability to catch the football. They also know he's got a lot to learn. Hey, Coach Amy Reed said he's going to have to really get up to speed here. The first installament was on Sunday. He's got twelve more to go. He'll learned a lot of shifting, a lot of motion, but they love the way he's been coming along in this offense, and they know he's going to bring an explosive element to this team.
You go back to last season, and obviously the Chiefs end up repeating his Super Bowl champs, right, but it was a hard road. They won eleven games, they had to go on the road in the playoffs for the first time. A big part of the reason they were able to stem the tide wasn't Mahomes in the offense. It would that being one of the best defenses in the NFL. What have the Chiefs been saying here in the early portions of training camp about their opportunity and their chances for continuing to play that well on the defensive side of the ball.
Well, they're excided about the challenges, and Chris Jones, their star defensive tackle, talked about just you.
Know, understanding that it's the new season.
They've lost some key pieces, most notably cornerback Lajeriusnea was one of the best players in this position last year. But Jones made a point of talking about Trent McDuffie and how important he is going to beat to this team. A guy who's going to his thirty year but it was an all pro cornerback last year. If he's able to pick up when a jeriou Steed left off as the top corner, and they're able to find a Knight answer on the other side, whether that's Josh Williams, Jalen Watson, Navi Johnson, they really believe they're going to be able to maintain what they did last year and stay. Spagnolo, their defensive porter, talked about with the Giants. They had a great defensive win championship. The next year they were really bad. He told these guys, can not let that happen to you. Understand, it's a new season. You have to go out there and reclaim what you did last year.
Jeffery, thank you very much. Look forward to chatting with you a lot more as we ramp up to back together. We get inside training camp and all of the coverage we got moving forward. You know what else we've got here on NFL Network, Good Morning Football is soon to be back. One week from today. Good Morning Football returns live from Los Angeles. That's July twenty ninth, right here on NFL Network at NFL Plus. Cannot wait to see Jamie Kyle, Peter Achbar Sherry.
The whole crew can't wait to see this guy after the break.
Forty nine Ers Berni Approval tight end George Kittle right here on the show.
It's the Insiders.
Ah, I love and honor.
This says really right, it's Mike Dare you have to wait for me? Oh?
I love football?
Look at it. You just did that door sky. You gonna go hot?
Fine?
Now?
Yes?
Right?
Why do you follow me around?
Is because I'm cute?
I thought so. People probably there. I'm a complete cycle. You don't do dwelly Do you understand me for what I am? You don't?
Okay?
Hey, how you doing?
Very Welcome to The Insiders. Forty nine Ers superstar tight end and friend of the show, George Kittle, who is the only one on show right now wearing a shirt that might be better than mine. What's going on?
Man? Oh man?
Just wrapping my cup Noodles fantasy football T shirt because Noodles carries about your fantasy football draft, and that's why they're providing surd fry noodles.
They want to take five minutes to eat ups to you.
Almost any picks in your draft, go to auto draft just makes a cup noodles go draft and come back and get them out of the micrope EASYPD lemon, squeeze man. I got Terry hockey for you, taky beef, I got honey, sesame. I got all that you need also, And I mean, like, did you just get off the golf first this morning, because you look fantastic, dude.
Okay, I've been playing a lot of golf. I'm not gonna lie this. The summer is not about football, yes, but it's also about golf. I'm getting a little better. I want to talk about training. Get before we let Judy jump in here. You guys get started in only a matter of days. There's been a lot of, obviously discussion about the forty nine ers. Tell me mindset wise, you are entering you or I think it's the eighth season, you're looking forward to it? You kind of like this about the grind. Where are you at right now?
I got to play football again, and I'm very excited about it and just being back in the locker room with the guys up tomorrow. See everybody, I'm very much looking forward to it. The fact I got to play football too in California, so I'm not like down you know, in the South and that humidity. I'm really looking forward to being back out there and just making more plays with the guys, you know, building stronger bonds and just starting this journey.
We really looking forward to it.
George, you and Brandon are you ked a really amusing emoji back and forth? Which I'm still not entirely clear what you guys were saying to each other, But I do want to ask you about Brandon. We know he is not satisfied with where things are with his contract and he was like a new one. How important is it to you and the team for him to return?
Well, first off, I love Brandon. He's a fantastic teammate and he does everything that you want him to do. I made those emojis up. I clicked on random things, and so that's what that emoji meant. I had a great time that my DM for full of people asking questions. I absolutely love doing that. But uh, you know, I he's just a phenomenal football player. He does everything that you want him to do as a wide receiver, including taking touchdowns for me once in a while, which I'm totally okay with. But he's just such a dynamic receiver and he's just such a very important part of our offense. So yes, getting Brandon I you the money that he deserves is I know. I hope nothing but the best for him. There's unfortunately not much that I can do to help out with that except just cheer him on from the sidelines and hopefully we figure something out because he's one of my favorite teammates I've had. And when you have a receiver that can you know, run every single route, catch all the tough footballs, just be open in the right time, but also is a grind. He grinds in the run game, blocks everybody you wanted to. You see all of his highlight right in the run game. And when you have a guy that does all that type of stuff and just sets the tempo and sets the tone, those guys are really important to your offense.
Yeah, my dms are filled with those questions too, So welcome to my world. Do you guys have had the same off It's coordinator essentially Kyle Shanahan for some time. The playbook is ever evolving and ever changing. When you get to training camp this week, are you is like? What does Kyle have drawn up for us? And what's that like? When you get to camp every year and you're like, we're gonna add this rink over that, or kind of look at the new look offense.
I guess, well, the nice thing is about, like when you go back to OTAs and they do all the installs, you see some of those new wrinkles. So a lot of guys have been exposed to those new wrinkles already and being able to see some of that stuff is awesome. And yes, you know, Kyle's been my office supporting in my entire NFL career, which is something not a lot of guys can say. His his first time as a head coach was my rookie season, so I've learned a lot from him, and just I'm always going prepared for training camp because then a new rinkle could come in the middle of a meeting.
He might just change his mind on something.
But I really appreciate that because he's always trying to improve, He's always trying to get better. He's always trying to find new ways to get our players open and for Brock to get him the football.
So I'm always looking forward to that.
But it is it's a it's a mental grind, it really is, because we have a very dense playbook with a lot of words, a lot of emotions, a lot of formations. But that gives us really good chances of winning. And you know, we have won a lot of football games, so he's I think he's doing a prett good job of that. But I'm excited to see the new new wrinkle that he's already changed since the spring.
We're excited to see that as well. George, you rock. Thank you as always for joining us on the Incenters. We look forward to having you back, maybe with a little more lent the interview at some point soon.
Yeah, you know, sometime soon. I'll be back.
But in any insider tips for me right now? Anything I can, you know, talk to the boys and locker roomb out tomorrow. Got anything good for me?
How about this? I'll text you and as long as you don't say it came it comes from me, then we're good deal.
I have a goldfish memory. I'll forget about it in three seconds. Man, don't worry about it.
I love it.
Thank you, man, I really appreciate you.
Guys. Great.
George Kittle, by the way, is also the founding father of the prestigious tight End University. Any kid would love to graduate there, especially if they play tight end. You could see ten End University Special live on CBS Saturday, October twenty sixth, the day before National tight End Day. Hopefully, just like last year, they will send me another weird looking T shirt. Coming up, Lamar Jackson misses another practice, Well, how did the team possibly survive without him? On Day two or three or whatever it is. Tune in and find out oh ive report of the Ravens coming up. When The Insiders.
Continued, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, the reigning NFL MVP, dropping out of practice on Sunday because of an illness, also did not practice on Monday.
Here's what John Harbaugh I had to say. Was Lamar close or kind of saying as yesterday? Really I couldn't really say, yeah, she's still sick. Couldn't make it today.
Welcome back to the Insiders, Tom feliserro Gudi Batist to join now by Steve Whitch.
Wouldn't be a Ravens training camp, or any.
Practice for that matter without some mysterious Lamar Jackson illness that causes him to miss time and probably ultimately won't stop him from playing even if they were a game this coming Sunday, Steve, let's talk about some of those guys up.
Front in front of Lamar.
We've talked so much about Derrick Henry, what that adds to the mix for the Baltimore offense. But tell me about that line and how important that is for Baltimore in twenty twenty.
Yeah, Tom and Judy.
To me, that's the big question going through training camp is how this offensive line is going to shape up. They've got three players no longer there, including starting tackle Morgan Moses who's now with the Jets. So they've got to figure out who's gonna play at both guards and then at right tackle.
And that's going to be a.
Situation because we know last year this offensive line it protected Lamar Jackson very well, and losing some of those players, will it be rookie Roger Rosengard now right tackle, joining maybe Andrew Vorhees in Ben Cleveland at the guards?
Well, Daniel for aalle, come in there and competing and get one of those spots.
This is going to be a work in progress to see how this offensive line takes place. You know, Ronnie Stanley, the left tackle, has been solid there for years, but he battles.
Injuries from time to time.
So this is a huge part of the components what the Ravens can be going up in a division with some of the best defenses in the league, Judy, not.
Just a division.
To me, this is one of the big X factors in the race at the very top of the AFC, because we know the Ravens are at the very top of the AFC. But right now, as they go into camp, they've only got the center and the left tackle locked in. Everything else is for gradge John Harbaugh is hoping they have it settled by the second week of camp. He says, if it goes into the preseason like well, maybe just one position or two positions, but not the whole thing in flux. So he wants this settled, as he put it, sooner the better. The Baltimore Ravens have a history of being able to put guys in there and develop them and keep.
Going as they roll along.
So I don't think that this is a high stress situation, but this is certainly something to watch in training camp because of course you've got Derek Henry. As you pointed out, Steve, they protected Lamar really well last season, and of course Lamar had a spectacular season on the way to the AFC Championship Game.
But for the Ravens to be an elite.
Team again in the AFC, this has to get settled, and it has to get settled pretty quickly.
Here one of the biggest men I've ever stood next to, Daniel fa a Leiley only one start through his first two seasons with Baltimore.
If he can step in, that would certainly be a big impact for that line.
Let's talk about the other side of the ball here, Steve, because Mike McDonald now is the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. John Arbaugh Derna Search named thirty two year old Zach orr as his defensive coordinator. Now, we've seen some former players step into elevated roles quickly. Here this is still a really fascinating higher one are the early returns on Zach orrs DC.
You mentioned that he's thirty two years old, right, He's a former player with the Ravens and someone who coached with the Ravens, so it's someone that they developed. He knows this game and he's gonna be welcome with a ton of talent, which includes safety Eddie Jackson who was just signed and one thing you can look for or to continue to do is to build up the middle of this defense. We know they've got Pierce at nose tackle, roqwand Smith in the middle. Didn't you add Eddie Jackson to Marcus Williams, two important veteran free agent safeties to go along with Kyle Hamilton at safety. That clearly is the important framework of what Zach Orr is going to do with this defense.
Again.
The youthful energy that he brings, much like Mike McDonald brought, is something that John Harbaugh wanted to continue. But the fact that he's got so much experience and talent at the safety positions and up the middle again with Pierce and with Roquan Smith inside, that is going to be the crux of what should once again be a dominant defense again with Justin Mattobuicke and some of those guys.
Up front as well.

We'll get a look on Back Together Weekend this coming wee get some of the quarterback competitions around the league. Who's the man in Vegas? Is it Minshew? Is it a O'Connell. Either way, he's still got a mustache. That's next on the inside, it's a new day in steel City.
Russell Wilson going to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Steelers acquired Justin Fields. Russell has told positions.
Now definitely don't have the mindset of c The Denver Broncos have now added Zach.
Will boot nick Man. There's going to be heavy competition there.
The Minnesota Vikings s lot Jay Ga McCarthy.
Sam Darnold has had a really good spring. He's been dialed in. This is also team of a quarterback competition. They get Gardner Minshew fifteen million dollars to have.
Ain't no connolo is a frienly competition.
And when I say freely, we shake hands because maybe when we go out there we're trying to holth Be.
The guys were New England Patriots. What Drake May They brought in Jacoby Brissett. I'm ready to go compete. We got a handful of quarterback competitions around the league. This is the one that I might be the most fascinated with.
Ah.
Yes, after an off season of speculation and talking about these things things over and over, we're finally into training camp where the quarterback competitions start to sort themselves out. Welcome back to the Insiders. Tom Pelasero, joined once again by Steve White. You just saw it there in that music video, narrated very aptly. I got to say, by me, Steve, what's the quarterback competition that you've really got your eye on?
Here?
We got to look at Denver, Tom, because you know they go on, they draft Bo Knicks, they trade for Zach Wilson, they have Jared Stidham there. First off, you've got Zach Wilson, who's barely older than the rookie, and he's going into his third year in the NFL, our fourth year in the NFL, and he's someone when you when you talk to people from up there who are watching some of these offseason workouts who looked really good as he should. He's got starts there, he's got the arm talent, he understands what's going on. He should be ahead of bow Knicks. But his bow Knicks, who said they have this respectable competition, going to use his status and his accuracy in some of the things that they liked about him to win this battle.
Or could be Jared Stidham who's been in this system for a year.
I think this comes down to Zach Wilson and bow Knicks, though, Tom and It's going to be very intriguing to see what Sean Payton decides as the big factor as to who he goes with as the starter. Could it be the experience Zach Wilson has, or could it be the future and the promise of bow Knicks who could be groomed for several years who they've committed to by the draft status.
What about in Las Vegas Steve same division here, the Raiders have Aiden O'Connell, who took over after Jimmy g was benched when Josh mcdams was fired last season, helped them win some games whatever the stats were. Ad O'Connell is the quarterback of a winning football team a bunch of times down the stretch. But then they give Gardner Minshew fifteen million dollars fully guaranteed in free agency.
How do you see this thing shaking?
Yeah, you got the fourth round draft pic versus a sixth rounds draftic for the starting job. The sixth rounder being Minshew, who's got you know, roughly three dozen career start more than three dozen career starts.
And he's gotten a certain moxie.
Even though his defensive end, Max Cross, we called him an lab. We won't go into what that acronym stands for, but he's got something to him that gets players to perform for him. That said, in speaking with Antonio Pierce earlier this spring, he says, this competition goes to Aid and O'Connell. Yeah, he's got some hot sauce as well. As you mentioned, he went five and five best to started for the Raiders. He's got something that his teammates like.
This offense.
Yeah, it's sputtered at times, but it flowed at times as well while they were trying to figure out their identity. So I think this is going to be a very even very fair competition. But again, I keep going back to what Antonio Pearce told me is that everything goes through a no'connell.
We'll see how things work out in a couple of weeks.
See if you can spell that out, you can spell out the acronyms here A little confident that none of those words are banned on NFL.
The little last boy, he called him a little last boy. There you go.
Thank you very much, stee will that you know that lab end up on the top one hundred list eventually, maybe someday we'll see are we.
Able to nail you down on a number one for the top one hundred for this year? Who should be number one on top one hundred? The best player in the NFL?
Oh wow?
Number one got to be Tyreek Hugh Tirik. Yeah, bro, that guy is different. The rest is pure speed side step the man touchdown, Ravan. I just think you just a missed in the NFL action postsa Christian Keffer.
Obviously I'm number one man.
Trent Williams is the best football player in the NFL. Miles Garris should be number one on the list to be the greatest. Pat Mahomes, Yeah, I'm not saying that guy's name.
Patrick Mahomes offense, TJ wat defense, calm down.
I'm just saying that's the truth. Tell me otherwise.
Connor Heywood, we're at the controversial type of selection here. You know who is definitely on this list the top one hundred players twenty twenty four announced by the NFL and social media earlier today.
Trevor Lawrence checking in at number ninety four.
You'll continue to see this rolling out across NFL Plus, NFL Network, and other platforms here as we roll into training camp and by the way, football is back, celebrate by watching his teams across the league take the field for training camp. First time we've seen Judy Battista in a while. Here, Where have you been, Judy? Tell us about your travels, give us the itinerary recap, of your off season.
How have we been.
I had a really nice few weeks at home with the family. We really did not do a whole lot of travel this offseason, although Tom, I understand maybe you made up for all the rest of us with travel. You had some travel adventures.
Yes, So, I was in Los Angeles last week hosting the Rich Eisend Show as well as The Insiders.
Little problem.
Friday night direct flight from Lax back to Minneapolis canceled. Saturday direct flight from Minneapolis to Lax canceled, rerouted to Salt Lake City where the connection was canceled, got rebooked through San Francisco, bump the standby on that one, rescheduled to go through Portland, at which point I decided, you know what, I'm not going to go west when I live east.
And that's right, the one two hundred and fifty two mile drive.
I did it over a roughly twenty six hours span from Sunday into Monday, got all the way back here.
I got a lot of.
Notes from some of my colleagues and NFL Network, among others, saying you're not really doing it, are you?
Oh?
Yes, I am, And I was counting it down throughout the course of the day here. It really wasn't bad. The first nine hundred miles or so, kind of breeze along. I stayed in I don't even remember the name of the town.
Last night in.
South Dakota they had a hot tub dipped in there for about ten minutes. Enjoyed it and made it back in time to host this show. Meanwhile, Mike and Ian were sending me photos on Saturday during my travels master from the racetrack.
And I was getting legitimately so mad.
I was already so frustrated by the travel situation, and I think at one point Ian I texted you guys something like, please stop, I am getting really mad.
No, it was way more dire than that. But this is a kid's show, so I'm not going to go there. There were definitely a couple of shots with Mike and I pouring beer on each other. We're like, should we send this a time whereas he can get and I think I said, I'm gonna have good friends here to send it now You'll never have them
