Hour One of the Good Morning Football Podcast begins with hosts Jamie Erdahl, Kyle Brandt, Peter Schrager, and Akbar Gbajabiamila discussing the New York Giants joint practice with the Detroit Lions - what’s the vibe like at Giants camp? Then everyone answers if they’re in or out on Caleb Williams embracing the star role on Hard Knocks and if Josh Allen should be more insulted than Patrick Mahomes with the 2024 NFL TOP 100 list. Later, they share how the San Francisco 49ers should handle the Brandon Aiyuk situation.

Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio.

Good Morning Football off and running.

This is Good Morning Football live here in Los Angeles. I'm Jamie her at All. Nice to see you. That's akbar Baji via Milla out there in training camp Land in New York, New Jersey area at Giants Camp Today. Jets Yesterday is Kyle Brandt and Peter Schrager. Kyle Brandt, your laundry bill on that T shirt that you wore yesterday, My friends.

I have twenty of these. I'm gonna wear them all season long. I'm never gonna change it. And I'm very excited today because after we do the show, when are we talking all these New York Giants dignitaries. Peter said he's got a great place with for a lunch buffet down the Turnpike. It's called the Bada Bay, and we're gonna go check it out. Peter knows a guy there. So after the show, meet us at the Bang Baby.

Yes, right, yes, I talked to Sylvia. He's got us set up already. Kyle's got the GMFB shirt on.

We are here at Giants camp and the best part about this It's not just the Giants today. The Lions are here, ma and they had a wild joint practice. You could already feel a buzz bruin here. Jamie Football's here, and of course we're at training camp, live on the scene.

Peter.

We know that you had some fomo yesterday because there was footage of camp yesterday practice between the Lions and the Giants. Peter had to get there. Kyle's there is his backup, if you will, let's talk about it. Let's lead block.

Block, all right.

So, as we kind of mentioned, things got chippy at the start. Frankly, throughout all of Giants Lions joint practice yesterday, there was pushing, there was shoving. You got players, you got coaches, you got quarterbacks in the fray. That's right. Daniel Jones even got into the mix. So Giants linebacker Brian Burns had a reaction to all this, to his quarterback in the red jersey being in the fray, and it was priceless.

Oh Lord, Daniel got jiggy with Daniel was out there with it.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm goned him the back up.

Yah yea, I'm gonnaed him the back up.

Let us olige handle that.

But uh nah, Daniel, he's a competitor man.

He easy to.

Fight us, so I don't expect nothing less from him. But I don't need him in there.

I don't need him to get hit.

Yeah, keep him healthy, So guys, Peter Kyle yesterday off Bar was like, don't you love the smell of fresh cut grass when it comes to training camp? I love the sound of pushing and shoving at joint joint practices. You were on the ground today, you said there was a buzz. Peter, walk us through what you expect. Maybe once they meet again today.

Well, I think ock par can speak to this and Kyle as well.

During training camp the first several weeks, it's just you guys versus your teammates, and you're up against each other, and sometimes you're in pads, sometimes you're not in pads and sick of each other.

It might be a little skirmish. And then there's fresh blood that comes to town.

And in this case yesterday, from what it sounds like, the Lions come in. They were in the NFC Championship game last year, they won two playoff games last year. They were America's darling last year, and they're not a soft team. They're a team that prides themselves on words like grit and toughness, and their coach walks the walk and talks to talk.

They come out there and it's.

Full pads and the Giants are like, you know what, you're in our house.

You're not going to walk into this building.

In front of our fans and ower media in Jersey and bulios around now. Yesterday, Michael Strahan was here, Victor Cruz was here, Phil Simms was here.

A lot of the media from the New York Giants.

So this is one of the chrispest most intense best practices they've seen in like a decade. And all that shippiness, all that stuff that you saw, that's months of just hearing in this market that this team is in a rebuilding year and that throughout hard knocks that they let say kuon walk, this is this squad right here there, proud team, the Giants. They've one of the best defenses in the NFC. And their quarterback getting in the mix. I think he's heard about him being not necessarily an alpha or a guy who represents the city as well or this town as well as people might have wanted him to.

I think that was.

Months of pent up energy boiling over, and it was the perfect adversaries with these Lions coming in with all their machismo and all their alpha status.

Remember the major motion picture Blood Sport and Ty eight.

There's a guy whose job at the Kuma te is to get down and clean up after the fights. And he's got like a sponge and there's blood and all this stuff, and he finds a gold tooth down on the kutze.

I was walking the practice field before I found three gold teeth. I got him.

I'm going right to the cash for gold thing in Jersey after this bing bing bing big bang, I'm gonna be I'm gonna be floating after the show.

But I think Peter's right. Lions going to the super Bowl.

Going to the Super Bowl, Peter, I'll put you here in Jersey on the spot I was looking before the show the preseason Super Bowl odds. Every team in the NFL, the Chiefs and Niners are up there at one and two.

Where do you think the Giants are one to thirty two twenty eight? They're twenty nine twenty nine.

The only teams behind them Denver, New England, Carolina and the Titans. So you have the Lions who are top four, and you have twenty nine the Giants, who are an incredibly proud franchise with a bunch of crowd.

This isn't some good There's four Lombards in there.

This is hollow ground. So you know, straight hand and eli. So like when the Lions, the bleeping Lions who did nothing for thirty years, come in here to Jersey and think you're gonna push you around, the Giants are like, all right, well, now you've got yourself somebody.

To fight, and I love it.

And the fact is an okpar you know this, Like all the coaches hate it until they find out that no one is hurt and no one was hurt. So now they're like, okay, cool, everyone wanted to fight, no one's hurt, no one broke their hand, none of that stuff.

So now it's like the weight is lifted a little.

Bit and let's just see some scraps and maybe we'll see more today.

Yeah, and I'll ask you that too, Kyle.

I'm gonna tell you, like coaches get fake mad when fights come out, like they they.

Have to possiblr like this is unacceptable. We're better than that. That's all fake speech.

Every single coach no, And I'm calling every single coach out they like when they see their guys by, because you know, you got dogs in the room. And I'm gonna tell you something. Daniel Jones right during right before we came on, Jamie showed me like Daniel getting in there our fools with Daniel Jones. From now on, I WoT think I'll ever say a bad word about Daniel Jones ever, because when I see a QB like in camp against a team in a joint practice, going in and pushing and getting and getting physical, that's what you want to see.

That sets the tone.

And every single person in that locker room just their respect level for Daniel Jones just went up like two or three notches.

I'm so glad you said that, because I'm looking at over our left shoulder. We got Daboll's who's a mood he's seen We watched him with the cigars and in the locker room and then Daniel Jones. And Daniel Jones was kind of teetering. I'm like walking in with his backpack and like, is he gonna have wheels on his backpack? But all of a sudden, yesterday the tide shifted for Daniel Jones, and I love this. Brian Burns sounds so much I want to hear it again. Brian Burns new to town, and he freshly applied a term that I'm just going to use all season long, getting jiggy with him.

Oh lord, Dan, you got jiggy with Daniel was out there with it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

I need him to back up. Yeah yeah, we need him to back up. Let us Olie handle that. But nah, Daniel, he's a competitor man, he's a fighter, so I on't expect nothing less from him. But I don't need him in there. I don't need him get hit. Yeah, keep him healthy right there.

How much pride was in that?

Oh wow, that was respect and confusion at the same time.

He was like really confused.

He respected, He said, you know, I'm gonna need him back up because you know, I think everybody knows that the quarterback wears the red jersey, and that means that you know, hands on touch him, don't touch the quarter right, But every player plays this game with no regards to personal safety except for the quarterback.

Right.

They got to slide, They got to do all this different thing to protect the quarterback. So when you see your quarterback going out there with no regard for personal safety and getting physical with the other team, getting putting hands on them, Oh.

Come on, man, that's just it's just blessed that child. Bless that child.

Bless that all on, Peter Kyle, to Akbar's point, can you confirm some of the other names that we heard that were a part of the fray yesterday? Because I think I heard it Joe Shane got in there and to Akbar's point, with Shane, like, guys, guys keep going stop stop, stop stop, No, we'll keep doing it. This is great. Stop no, no, no backup space.

Yeah, there's much.

I mean, Aman Ross Saint Brown was taking on about four giants at one.

Perfect, absolutely perfect.

I'm Brown, I think, to Akbar's point, any other quarterback in the league, I'm not sure. I'm I am ra ryeing and saying that's good. Like it's very specific to Daniel Jones, and I'm okay with this. I think this was a Daniel Jones moment. And it's so silly because it's August fifth and let's see week one, what's going on. But like he needs a moment, he needed a moment where the fans are like, hell yeah, like that's our guy, and the teammates were like, okay, I don't think you want to see Patrick Mahomes in there. I don't think you want to see Bryce Young in there. I don't think you want to see any of those other quarterbacks that are of the thirty two. But for Daniel Jones, as superficial as it sounds, as schoolyard as it sounds, it was great that he got involved and it was necessary and sure the first and foremost thing, no one got hurt, so it's important.

I'll also add one more note.

A lot of times when you've got these joint practices and there's a francas or a skirmish on day one, day two, they'll just shut it down and be like, you know what we're playing on Thursday, we got it in one of the two teams, just separate and we'll do They're going at it again today, and like Dan Campbell has history with Brian Dable, there's a trust there that like, we're not gonna do anything too stupid.

Joe Shane has history with Dan Campbell. I love it.

They're gonna go at it again today, and I don't think they're gonna take the gloves off everyone.

I think they were like, keep that same tensity. We needed that going into the first preseason. You said, I love this time of year.

You said fracas, skirmish, bha, dust up.

You know what I like? I like donny Brook, Connie, but Johnny Brook, how would I just picture like a dust ball and just.

Like can you there's the Daniel Jones thing is going further than we might think. People are saying that like new bearded Daniel Jones. This is also isn't it is different?

And people are starting to call him Dan Jones. People one like giant.

Twitter giants, sweeter like these guys who follow and live and breathe, these men and women who breathe. So Daniel is like left by. That's that's it, all right. That was I mean, that's all we needed. After the practice yesterday and he was talking about, yeah, you know, I didn't like seeing messing with my guy, and I had to get in there. That's Dan Jones, not Danny and not Daniel. That's DJ. That's Dan Jones. Like he'll go if he has to, And there's a rebrand coming up, and that's what I'm looking for Yes.

Kyle, I think there needs to be a Mattress maduration from Dan Joe Owns to DJ. Just straight, DJ, I mean Dwayne Johnson DJ, right, Like, that's it. I want to put DJ in the ring with Jake Paul because I think that's the type of grit he's carrying around right now, like those two. I got my money on DJ against Jake Paul in the ring.

Smart, Okay, I like it. I like that matchup. What I what I think is fascinating. We're going to talk to him later. You don't see a general manager getting involved in the thing because respect to Joe Shane, the image of Jeff Van Gundy coming up hanging out a Lonzo Morning's leg, you don't want to go that way. He got in, he protected himself.

He de escalated the Donny, he escalated. N We're going to have I'm sure he'll love to talk about that Joe Shane when he sits down. Donnie brook Brew, Haha, Francas, what else? Give me a couple others? Do you tell us Twitter? What are we missing? What am I forgetting?

Is excellent? Kyle, I really appreciate that one.

Here's my theory on why NFL quarterbacks fail at such a dramatic rate. To me, expectations are a killer. This kid, you got, This kid's got so much media, so much hype, so much expectation on doing well, and he has to develop so quickly to meet the expectations that everybody has for him. It's almost impossible. The expectations are a killer. But yet, to use your word, development is the key for him. You know, like Peyton Manning through twenty eight interceptions when he was a rookie. It's the most in the.

History of all Fanny Let's to throw tim in Ourse put the nail on each.

But it didn't affect them. It's like the scoreboard. Scoreboard don't meant until the game's over.

That is good stuff right there, that little taste for tonight. Some contexts there.

Nick Saban was Matt Eberflus's college coach University of Toledo the player as a player, iber Flus was a tackling monster number ninety for the for Toledo, and Saban was the head coach.

So that's where we go from there, Peter, we can't.

We can't have Caleb throwing twenty eight interceptions. No, the game has changed the world has changed and it's not gonna fly.

And let's not stress the word development too much. You actually need him to be, you know, developed. We do a segment call we we out. We're gonna bring a acbar and Jamie, here's what is. I'm gonna name a statement. You tell me whether you agree or not. Caleb Williams first overall, pick eccentric personality. He should lean all the way in, embrace the spotlight, and really embrace me in the star of this.

Hot hard knock series. Achbar your thoughts. Number one overall, pick a lot of eyeballs on them.

Yeah, yeah, I'm in on this one right here. To me, this is this is everything you dream of for the Chicago Bears. Like you've got that guy, the guy who can attend or who can take in all of this attention. He went to the school where it's the city of stars and cars, that's Los Angeles, USC. So he's used to it. He knows how to handle himself. I think of it kind of this way. Think of it like when you get the build up for the new iPhone, right they start sprinkling little things out there.

It can do this, he can do that.

He can do this, all these things right, and then there's the big reveal. Right, everybody's coming in to go watch the big star, which is the new reveal, which is Caleb Williams.

I'm excited to see this. I think they.

Should lean all the way in. It's not only good for the bottom line for the Chicago Bears. I think it's good for the fan base, and more importantly, I think it's going to do more for his confidence than anything else. He can handle it, He's filled for it.

I was in on this. I was in, but then I realized that there's somebody else in association with the Chicago Bears that I think deserves even more of the star power treatment. So I'm out. It's Nick Saban. I think we need more Nick Saban on Hard Knocks. I think Caleb Williams your your star. It's plenty solidified. I feel badly for Nick Saban. He retired. There's not enough of him on TV. We don't see enough of him, we don't hear enough from him. I think we need more Saban on Hard Knocks. We never knew we needed him back into the NFL until now. Saban every day at training camp throughout Hard Knocks I'm out of Caleb Williams in on Saban Hard Knocks.

What about you, guys, I couldn't be more in I hope.

You know, Usually the opening shot that they like to go with is it'll be a dark sky and there's a shot at the facility and there's one light on in the coach's office. That's usually the opening shot. You know what, guys, if we're gonna do this thing, let's do it. I hope the opening shot is a close up of Caleb Williams painting his fingernails, and I just.

That is who he is. Because here's the deal.

If you do not give them who you are and give them your story, they will make up a story and they will tell you who you are.

It's a little.

Autobiographical for me. I did a reality show twenty years ago. Just be yourself, Caleb. There's no hiding. They've got fifty different cameras following you wherever where. Now you're the number one quarterback and number one pick in Chicago. They haven't had a quarterback one hundred and eight years. HBO is gonna have a story about you. It's gonna be a big one. So let it be your story. Tell it, don't hide it. Do all the stuff you want to do, because if you're running from cameras and talking in code, there's gonna be an HBO writer's room that's gonna sit around and be like, here's what we're gonna.

Do with Caleb.

Let's edit some crap together because they will make a show.

Let it be the show that is really about you. That's really good advice.

I think the litmus test will be tonight and it'll be early we know from an early year promo we saw a Tyson Bagen's reaction that Caleb's addressing the room and says his signing bonus, you only do that.

Before you perform at the rookie show. That will be the litmus test.

Is he is he doing something cool or trying to like show up or is he what I would say, having fun with it and sings a song that is silly and dance. Is like if Caleb's self serious and goes out there and is like I actually would like to perform a song from my fifth grade no and.

Then my new album I've been working. I want to see Caleb.

I want to see Caleb bamb I want to see him have a horrible voice, and I want to see all the veterans booing him and him laughing and him hag fun and then him having hugs because okbar, that's what a rookie needs, a little bit of hazing, a little bit of fun. I can't come in there as mister Hollywood.

This is all about me. This is it.

I'm so serious and let's let me let me drop this with Kendrick lamar verse that no one can ever imagine because it's so good close to it can be everything.

Yeah right, its me out.

A little bit to consider that he's actually gonna just bomb. So how about can I meet it with what we saw from Aden Hudginson last year, which is at first we were nervous because like when he committed to the Billy Jean, you were like, oh good, how is this gonna go? And then and then he settled in and it was awesome. So there was there was discomfort, There was not sure if we're going to accept this, and then there was there was celebration. So can we work through that? Uh a foray of emotions.

Yeah, there's a factor that didn' hudge that going form that Caleb doesn't based on the some of the demographics and everything that Caleb was doing a stick where he's like, I'm Aiden and I'm going to perform Michael Jackson to this room.

And that was the angle he yead.

Caleb doesn't have that same angle, but I understand I don't necessarily need to see him bomb, but like, just be authentic what Peter's saying about if you go up and be like, this is the this is the verse that got me into believe whym and like and you just butcher it.

Don't do that. It's a joke. You're doing it. You're doing a skit for your teammate. But what if he likes saying like Dolly Parton's nine to five. I like that. He's like the Beg's we'd love that, right, I like it? Yes, He's like, here we go, Here's here's the Beg's. How deep is your love? All right? Number two, We're gonna start with ocbar again. I got my script out here.

Thank you.

JB.

Kritz our star producer Josh Ellen. He also likes Kendrick Lamar, Big Kendrick Lamar.

Guy.

Josh Allen came in at number twelve in the NFL's top one hundred players, while Patrick Mahomes came in number four.

These are all the quarterbacks. Heay a look at it. There's a lot of eye candy right here.

This is how the NFL players list at the top ten quarterbacks in the NFL up to thirty nine Burrows ten. Here's my statement, Josh Allen at twelve should be more insulted than Patrick Mahomes at four, which we went.

Nuts about yesterday. Ochbarr thoughts we are out on that one for sure.

Patrick Mahomes should be upset that they put another quarterback in front of him. I mean, they put Lamar Jackson in front of him, and it's Patrick Mahomes the guy who's out there winning it and doing it big. I mean last year, I will say that Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes played better than Josh Allen.

So I'm not sure why he would be upset.

You look at some of the other names on there, Christian McCaffrey, Max Crosby. They meant more to their team than I would say Josh Allen. So I would say he's right where he's supposed to be at that number, and if he wants to do something about it, then he can't. He can do it in twenty twenty four and make it, you know, make us safety.

Well, that's the question at hand is that should he be more insulted? And I think the only answer for somebody with an ego that he should have deservedly Josh Allen in I'm in on him being more insulted than Patrick Holmes being at four. Listen, four is great. It's great number. You got three great players ahead of you. Mahomes. I just need you to accept it because frankly, we like this with you when you go with the four and you look at it very confused, it's perfect, Josh Allen, you should be insulted. Eleven players better than you. Are you kidding me? Kyle? What do you think?

Peter? I gotta be honest with you. But I don't know if I have another top one hundred segment in me.

I know we're going to try to juice one more time than Mahomes was out wheezing that Lemon.

I said this yesterday. Mahomes is fourth.

Tyreek Hill was better at wide receiver last year than Mahomes was at quarterback.

He just was.

And again, it's not the playoffs, so it's the regular season thing. I don't know if I can get there anyway.

I know everyone gets so mad and you see it in black and white, and we love ranking things.

Josh Allen behind Lamar and Mahomes last year, it seems fine to me, don't I don't.

I think he has been asked is he is so programmed and so callous anytime Patrick Mahomes's name comes up that he's just kind of Pat's great, it's great, play a great league. I don't think that after year after year losing to him being out ranked by him.

I think he is numb to it, as I kind of am to this topic. Am I wrong? Oh you're fine. I appreciate your honesty and your authenticity.

I think what the what we're getting at here is that he wasn't even top ten like Mahomes. To Jamie's point, like, all right, you're gonna put three guys higher than me.

At the time when we voted, these guys might have had me.

Josh Allen not even top ten, Kyle, if you're to build a team, I think Josh Allen's probably three or four in your list, And all due respect to Max Crosby and Stone Cold Jones, I'm probably taking Josh Allen before both of those guys, Right.

But the NFL players aren't. I don't know what.

And now we can get inside the why do they think that way? I think tired of he was on the Madden cover last year. The Bills have not been able to get done in the playoffs. Maybe Playbill are a little bit like, Yeah, he's nice, but I don't know.

That's all I can say about.

Okay, all right, we're gonna play and have some fun with this last one because we're a very serious show.

Yeah, all right. There was footage yesterday.

Of the Chicago Bears, a team we've already talked about.

Enjoying slipping slide.

Okay, at practice a hot day, they were enjoying the slipping slide.

Here's the statement. All right, I'm gonna get the exact wording right here. Who get my trusted script again?

Again?

Self, serious show, gotta make sure they keep question ready, you get the question right? No, I got it.

Slipping slide is the greatest backyard water sport.

Are we inner?

We out at bar we start?

Look, it looked fun on there, like you know, during training camp, I would have loved to have done something like that, even though I had no business sliding, but I will say I'm out on that one. And the reason why is because are we just gonna forget about like the water balloon flight fight, like the what's gon fight? That is the all time greatest water sport of all the water fight sport of all time, and not to mention it has great application for football learning how to dodge, be nibble roun. So I'm gonna go with the water bloom.

I'm out on this too, mostly because of the extracurriculars that are involved in the slipping slide, which is and by that I mean when you go past the slide and you just get that swath of grass down your leg and you're like, I didn't want this here. It's just terrible. It's all muchy, it's not good. I'm out on this. I go for just a classic sprinkler, like just back forth, back forth. You can jump through it, you can take it easy if you want, you can just stand underneath it like a shower. It's gonna you have options. I'm going out on the backyard water water slide whatever, guys.

I have so much to say on this. We're gonna alete bomb for a stable yeah, that's all right. The floor is yours.

I am completely out on slip and slide as the greatest backyard water sport.

Where do I even begin.

First of all, a slipping slide has about an eighty percent injury rate one hundred percent crying rate. Someone is always crying, and it's usually when they're standing at the thing at the end of the thing and they get undercut by their brothers sister. That comes now. First of all, it's cago beart. You gotta give me some more runway to work with here. You'd buy two or three and you attach them together. These are grown men. This one worked for six year olds. That's about six feet of water slide. And then, as Jamie mentioned, inevitably you go careening into the swath of grass.

And that's if you're lucky. That's if you don't catch.

The steak that is staking the thing into the grass, that'll and completely gash your arm or lego.

It's absolutely terrible. I don't like it.

Someone always gets hurt, someone always cries. It's expensive. Back in the day, if you have the Boozie one, it's the crocodile mile on the pool at the end. The greatest Jamie was close, and I respect Jamie sprinkler as a backyard sport, especially if you got the.

Like.

However, the greatest backyard water sport is the og.

It is the unk, it is the goat. It is just a damn hose. Get a hose out, put.

Your thumb over it, Spray the crap out of the kids. There's all sorts of funny stuff where they sneak up behind you and then they they kink the hose like that, and then you're powerless, and it says it's a metaphor. And then when they undo it, they spread it. They're always wanting to control the hose. And then you know what's great is then when you've been playing aggressive hose for a while, then you just take the most refreshing drink you could ever.

Take right out of the damn hose. Right you taste that rife.

When we were a popper proper country, we're not going to get the vitamin water for eight bucks a bottle.

Right out of the hose. You can taste the fluoride and the rest and the vitamins. The garden hose is the best. Yes, I like some rubber with my water. I don't care garden hose undefeated. Can I chime in real quick? I'm not gonna be able to follow that. That was great. My uh my in laws were.

Visiting and they they they bought my son mel a water gun, a water pistol if you will, or a water I wish it was a water pistol.

Have you seen what these water circles? This is unbelievable. Yeah, they're I mean, this is not when we were kids. Dude, what we got.

There's eight different like way, it's like hit woozy RPG.

He's got a one year old sister.

He sprang or whatever happened to just a little water gun the fielding with the little thing.

And need to put the cat on it.

And it is insane what the toy companies are doing.

With these things.

Now they have mortar cannons and like water cannons of mass destruction like a musket one.

Shot, one shot bomb.

Now it's poor Betty Man. Well, you gotta Tampa down, oh Man.

Forty nine Ers general manager John Lynch has long said he wants wide receiver Brandon Ayuk to remain in San Francisco, but the news coming out on Monday appears to be pointing in a different direction. NFL Network insiders Mike Grifolo and Tom Pliso are both reporting contract talks between Ayuk and the forty nine ers have stalled and it seems more likely are you will be traded, Mike and Tom adding there are multiple teams in for the wide out, but a deal is not in place at this time. Also, you will have to agree to an extension with the new team, So outside about you getting a new deal with a new team, the forty nine ers will want to make sure they get a deal that makes sense for them, as well as a receiver Jamie who is coming off.

A career year last season.

So definitely going to be keeping our eye on this developing situation.

Yeah, every year it feels like there is one of these names that bubbles out of training camp that's like, okay, here's the guy. Now we're going to have to focus on this and it kind of detracts from what the rest of the team is doing throughout training camp. So, Peter, I swing it out to you. How do you unpack this situation? What you've heard, what we've seen from Ayuke within this forty nine ers offense, what you know they need and maybe what other teams need throughout the NFL lot to unpack here.

I've been on the phones for the last couple of days on this one and haven't said much on this show, but now that's the topic.

Matt Mayakoko, who's out of uh people here? Yeah know lot set is NBC at San Francisco.

He said, not only is there trade talks, but there's a framework in place for two different teams, the Browns and the Patriots. I wouldn't doubt Matt maya Coco stuff. He's been on the ground there for twenty years, so.

I think that's true.

I also think this was a combination of Ayuk not being out there and Deebo Samuel from what I'm told, showing up to camp looking the best he's looking in his career and acting like an adult and being a true leader and saying, Okay, if he's out, I will take on this responsibility and been the veteran in the wide receiver's room. Which is so interesting because Deebo went through contract stuff himself back in the day and then they got his deal set.

Uh.

Ayuk, it's a question when you got rock Perty to pay coming up, you got all these other guys coming up. Do you pay Brandon Ayuk twenty five million dollars?

No?

If you don't, then let's trade him and get something for him, because there might be a team that is willing to do that. Brown's and Patriots are the front runners, but that might have been just put out there as.

The initial stuff.

The framework is there, and if Brandon and Ayuk is okay with that, I think he could be traded and it could happen pretty soon.

I have a lot of respect for the forty nine ers in the way they're handling this, because it's not easy to say no. It's not easy to not pay people when every single person in the world seemingly is, certainly anybody with internet access is pay this man, Pay this man, pay this man. You know you don't pay everybody. Here's the deal. Brandon Ayuk is a really good player. He was very productive on a Super Bowl team last year. Brandon and Ayuk is also I'm just gonna throw a dart at a wall.

Here.

Is he their ninth best player on the team? Like offense? Defense? Is he the tenth?

They have a ton of good players, and I do think he's very good. I don't think he's a superstar. I don't think he's justin Jefferson. I don't think he's Jamar Chase. He's a very good wide receiver that someone else will be lucky to have. And if you look at the Shanahan system in terms of like the convenient metaphor of a Swiss army knife, it's like McCaffrey is the blade, Deebo's the screwdriver, Kittle is the definitely the corkscrew, like are Yuk is like the toothpick.

Like you like it.

It's nice to have, but like I think we can make do with this package without paying you killer money. Let someone else do it. We've been with Brandon for years. We know what he is, we know what he isn't we'd love to have him. It's too expensive to pay that much money for our ninth best player.

We have to say goodbye. And that's the way it's gonna work.

Oh man, that's a that's a that's a hard one to follow.

I'm gonna say that I see this a little different. If he is a toothpick, I'm.

Gonna say he's a like a shiny metal toothpick.

One hard ones.

So you disagree with what Kyle is saying, yes.

One that is gonna break.

I think it's gonna be one that you can really go to and use time again, over and over.

And over again. I think he's a very talented guy.

And I think what's coming down to is that a lot of these players in this situation now where we're in a different era, and I keep saying it, is that these players, they're peaking at a right at the right time. He's going into his fifth option, he's making fourteen million dollars a year. He knows he can make more than fourteen million dollars a year. And just remember, like if something happens to him, that value goes down, So you have to get it when when it's hot, like right now he's hot. He means enough to his team to where he knows he's outperforming what they're paying him right now. And if he goes elsewhere, if he is traded, I think Brandy you is definitely going to be making more than fourteen million dollars a year. I think he's going to be in the twenty plus million a year. And I don't see why the forty nine ers could just say, you know what, we've got a squad. Right now, let's go and let's pay you. I know you got to look out for brock Perdy, but I'm sure they got enough smart guys out there, you know, the general manager and all those guys who can make those things work.

Far hitting us with the proverbial reusable toothpick, which I really hadn't conceptualized before, Peter, when you thick in the Browns and the Patriots, frankly, I can't think of two more different teams in terms of trajectory at this point. Browns sitting squarely very competitive within their division, and the Patriots the only word I hear right now in association with them is rebuilding. So I can't believe these two destinations for him potentially reportedly, and how different they are.

Yeah, it's totally different. So Browns would be like, this is our over the top. This is going to be what it gets us. With the conversation with the Ravens and with the Bengals and with the Chiefs of course, and then with the Patriots, it's like, well then he'll be our number one, Like, he'll be our number one guy, and he's our franchise player, and we work around him.

And here's who Drake Makro is with.

I will say this, This isn't like they all just woke up yesterday and it's like, here's what's going. This has been months in the making, months with the agent, talk it to the guys, and like John Lynch does the the you know, obviously the general manager position, but Perrague Marathi does a lot of the stuff with the salary cap. And they've got like a whole team there in the front office of the Niners. And this has been a entire summer's whorth and now we're hitting preseason and it's like.

We haven't gotten this done. If if a team is willing.

To pay us and get like for the for the Patriots, for example, if it's Kendrick Bourne and it's a future second, like, all right, they had Kendrick Bourne there in the past, a future second, We'll take him for the Browns. I'm not sure which wide receiver, but if you can get another wide receiver and a second round pick and he the Niners, like we plan them being in the Super.

Bowl every year, We'll take the Patriots second round pick. That's gonna be the thirty third pick next year. All right, We'll find someone else like I get it.

I get it.

And when you get to this point in the in the in the summer, it's not June, it's not lie. We're past the franchise tag, we're past the start of training camp.

It's football time.

And if they want to make a trade, I wouldn't I wouldn't doubt it would happen in.

This All these people are so afraid to walk through the shot. They're so polite here, they're all very reticent to do it. It's okay, you're great, But every single one that walks past, they look, they say, you gotta pay this man, you gotta pay.

You have to pay this. Four year old kids come, they can barely speak. They're like, pay, I use man. John Lynch isn't saying it quickly?

Joint practice. There any not new Jersey candidates that you've seen so far today?

Great call, Jamie.

I'm seeing only the headliners, so I am seeing lines and jerseys.

Yes, oh there he is.

You gotta pay this, you got it, you got it.

Go ahead, Chunky lady, start your engines. Folks.

It's time for Perfect Pair, presented by EA Sports MVP Bundle.

The pass rushing duo from Florida State are now immediately on the rams together.

How cool is that? College teammates first and second round ficks.

You think that's cool. Let's go to the Eagles. Give me some quinyon Mitchell, knock it down. Oh we picked it, Quinna Metch, all right, so that's nice play, all right?

What about Cooper de jen mad him? Of course they do give me that thing. See healthy and Madden.

How great is that? Productivity in my house has gone way down? Kyle? Have you purchased the bundle yet? And how little have you gotten accomplished?

I actually have not.

We've been playing a lot of Madden at home. But so Calvin right now is all geared towards NFL. But when the fall comes, Jamie and we start to hear those marching bands and we start to ask the college game day, we'll be getting college very good.

The Giants they're busy at training camp. They're getting ready to bounce back after one would call a disappointing season. Peter and Kyle, they're there, guys, you're going to get the GM You're going to get the head coach. What are you planning to discuss and how are you going to get them there?

Yeah?

Joe Shane is an interesting one. The Saquon situation was fascinating. What I would like to see, though, is what they saw in Neighbors that they were so convicted that Neighbors was the guy that they weren't willing to.

Draft a quarterback.

Instead, they went with Malik Neighbors instead of Michael Pennox, JJ McCarthy and Bo Nix. And it wasn't even a question. But the real question to me is how did Joe Shane doing that?

Uh brew haha, yesterday he got in.

I mean think everyone is so owing and eyeing over Daniel Jones, mixing it up as they should.

You just don't see general managers run out there. I don't remember ever seeing that, no hesitation. Daniel Jones proved something yesterday. So did Joe Shane.

We're gonna ask him about that. We're asked about everything that's going on here. And then Dave's Daves. I mean, this is one of our favorites. We had all kinds of stuff to talk to Dable about, including big, big, big year for the Giants right now.

I gotta have it. Big big weight loss too. How much we are you talking here?

We're talking like sixty seventy pounds for sixty years, seventy pounds.

Amazing. I can't wait to see him. I don't know if IM gonna recognize him. All right, let's go.
