The Good Morning Football Podcast is part of the NFL Podcast Network
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio.
Good Morning Football.
This is Good Morning Football presented by the Farmer's Dog Live in Los Angeles. No, your eyes do not deceive you. This is what GMFB is gonna look like sometimes. Okay, this is akbar Bus, should be Miller over. There is Peter Schraeger. That's Kyle Brandt. They've left the station. They've flown back cross country to make Good Morning Football coast to coast, and they raided the costume closet on the way out. Gentlemen, walk us through it.
Well, listen, we got we had to represent New York, right, Peter.
Absolutely.
And then in the NFL costume closet, it's Disneyland.
They got every jersey, every player New Old.
I went contemporary with the Aaron Ryde just jet jersey, represent New York, Peter, what did you do?
Well?
The thing is this football is tonight, like there's actual football.
So it's game day.
So I put on the Giants threads.
And this isn't Jeremy Shockey, this isn't any current.
This is my guy, Victor Kruz. I want Victor Cruz do a little sauce here. We're bringing it back to New York. That's where we're at. And you know what football we see it tonight.
It's Texans Bears and we're wearing our game day jerseys.
Let's go.
Okay, Peter wrote a book with Victor Cruz. Did you know that? Isn't that right there?
I didn't know that?
Okay, Okay, ackbar that it's called out of the Blue twenty eleven. Go buy at ock Bar when you're at the Barnes and Noble over there.
On the strand.
All right, will you autograph it?
Yes?
I will autograph it for you.
Yes, with a lipstick smack.
All right, we begin with the lead block. Awkward. This is what we call juice. Okay, we got some juice because there's a game being played tonight. Football has not I've been played since February eleventh. It's happening. It's a long drought, but it ends with the whole fame game between the Texans and the Bears kicks off tonight. Can'ton Ohio. No CJ. Stroud, KAYLEB Williams not expected to suit up either. However, both dreams are grabbing headlines as we head into the season naturally, those two quarterbacks, the names, the personalities, the potential skill level for the rookie quarterback who it's a lot to talk about. But Peter, the question becomes which team is more captivating to you?
You asked me this last year, Jamie, I would have said, neither team really does much, and I think it's interesting to see what Justin Fields does and the Texans are going to.
Be way back there and they're a year away.
Both of these teams are super Bowl contenders right now.
And if you're listening to.
The hype on the Texans, I think we're talking about a super Bowl favorite if it's not.
The Chiefs, that's how much hype they're getting.
But the Bears, the Bears is who I'm going to be looking at right now because the Bears are captivating. The Bears are a team that we haven't had legitimate thoughts.
Like this in years, in a really long.
Time, and now they've put all the pieces together and I think this is night one of what's going to be in August mint for the Chicago Bears. It starts with the Hall of Fame game, where's gonna get a little touch of it, a little bit of the nostalgia, and then on Saturday, we're gonna have the Hall of Fame where we're going to see Devin Hester inducted into the Hall of Fame. And then we get hard Knocks on Tuesday, and then every Tuesday, every week, we're going to get more and more.
Of the Bears. I'll tell you.
This, the Chicago Bears have so much buzz, so much excitement right now that Kyle, as someone who grew up in Chicago, I can't even imagine you wearing a Jets jersey next to me, because.
This is Bear's time.
And it's finally here, and I feel like it's real.
Caleb Williams is the real.
Deal, not only a Jets jersey, a Jets Aaron Rodgers.
I'm wearing the Jets Aaron.
Rodgers jersey because Peter and I are introducing the show in New York, so I wanted to commemorate that.
But I really wish, I wish I was in Chicago.
And my advice to Chicago Bears fans tonight watching this, enjoy tonight, Enjoy.
And I'm I tell you how and why.
It's gonna be in the high seventies, all right, me a little summer rain outside tonight.
I want you to order some food. I want you to open some.
Wine or whatever you like to make yourself feel good and just soak it in. I want you to feel tonight like Caleb when he took the stage back in Detroit and was screaming this guttural scream that he was becoming a Chicago Bear.
This is how I want to feel. All you're living right now, whoa for.
The Hall of Fame game and just soaked this in because the Chicago.
Bears listen to these words. The Chicago Bears are the cool team.
I don't know if they're the good team yet, but they're the exciting team.
They're the it team.
You got the new young players, you have the up and coming players. You just paid a Chicago Bears wide receiver the biggest contract in team history.
Enjoy it.
It is going to be a four quarter Chicago Bears infomercial. Joe Buck and Trougman are going to be gushing about Caleb Williams his arsenal of weapons, and then Troy's gonna remind you, Joe, I gotta tell you I like this defense a lot.
And he's right, he should like the defense. Hester's going in the Hall of Fame. It's gonna be a love fest and you've earned it. Enjoy it.
Through the frustration of the Fields era, the disappointment of the Matt.
Naggy era, this is the new era. Listening.
The White Sox are forty games out of first place, forty The Cubs are the Cubs. The Bulls are nothing, the Blackhawks were terrible, but the damn Bears are loaded.
They matter. It's is it gonna work out? I think I want a whole bunch of games. I don't know. You don't know, They don't know.
But what I do know today, my friends, is that tonight is a hell of a night to be a Chicago Bears fans.
And how many times can you say that in the last ten years. Enjoy it, You've earned it.
Bear down, and that's the beauty of tonight because there's no pessimism yet, no optimism.
That's why we do this. It's it's August.
It's like, this is what the Jets last year, guys, hard knocks Hall of Fame game, and now the Jets didn't go as a vision of plan.
The Bears they have out to.
Kyle, ask you one more question before we go back to the table in La you did mention the defense. I haven't said a word about the Bears defense this entire summer. As we've been talking about all this hype.
Is the defense up to snuff? We know the offense aded all the pieces.
I don't think a lot of people watched the last Chicago Bears football during the last month. There was not a hotter defense in the NFL. That secondary had the best finished to a season since the lesion of Boom. They have Montese sweats, they have this, and this and this. The defense was fantastic last year, and the offense kept messing it up.
Not anymore, of my friends, not anymore. Bear down, back to La Wow, bear down.
We're going to try to avoid this happening. But all of a sudden, it seems like now we have to come to the defense of the Houston Texans, because the people in that room in New York, with the New York Jerseys on, ironically have come to the defense of the Bears this offseason, hyping up the Hall of Fame game tonight. Please speak on the Texans well amount.
I think the more captivating team is the Texans for sure. I mean because they've done something. We know what they've done. The proof is in what they did last year. Let me walk you back, especially you Kyle, since you have the Aaron Rodgers jersey on. I bought into the hype. I love football, all right, and I remember hearing all the hype Aaron Rodgers.
Yes, this is gonna he's gonna change New York and he's gonna They're gonna build him a tower.
And I flew my butt out from the West coast to the East coast. I'd never played in this stadium. I've never been to the stadium. I wanted to see Aaron Rodgers with my own eyes. And then of course the whole world go, what happened? What happened? Oh my gosh, he's hurt, he's out for the season. Let me tell you the stadium. The energy was lost in that stadium. Everybody was in shock. Right, everybody died just of shock in that stadium. And that's because they didn't have a good understanding. Why am I bringing Aaron Rodgers up. I'm bringing Aaron Rodgers up because the preseason is a valuable time to understand and what's really holding up the team. Look, I was a role player, so I understand the role players are. Those are the people who hold up the team. So when I'm watching this game, I know what c J. Stroud can do. I know what Joe Mixon can do. I'm excited about those guys. I'm excited about a Stefan Diggs. But you know who a lot of people don't know about the guy backing got c J. Shroud. God forbid, God forbid. I rebuke in the name of the Lord. I rebuke c J. Stroud from being injured this season. But if that does happen, Case Keenum backing up CJ.
Strout, And I've watched.
This young man since he was in college. I called several of his college games in college. Let me tell you Kase Keenum is king. Let me take you back to when Case Keenum back.
In twenty twenty one.
Take that back on Mayfield got hurt, he came in, stepped in boom two and oh you remember.
Let's go back a little.
Further back when he was with the Vikings in twenty seventeen. People go, who's case Cam. I'll tell you Case Keenum in he's a baller to do win eleven and three in Minnesota. So I'm telling you when I watched this game, I'm watching for Case Keenu. I know it's a preseason game, the Hall of Fame game and all the pageantry stuff, but Case Keenum, if he goes out there, it has a great preseason game. We're in good hands. That is insurance. This is not an insurance commercial. But he's in good hand. Or the Texans are in good hands.
No, apparently it's a case Keenum commercial. Let me let me tell you. Let me ask you a question.
Off bar.
Yes, you've got the number two draft pick from last year up on the screen behind you. You have the number one pick from this year, and nine minutes into Good Morning Football presented by the Farmer's Dog, you've got Case Keenum highlights. Peter Schrager, I know the fires you up. Let me just I'll take you back to the off season two because to me, the Hall of Fame game is about who won in terms of headlines. I had a baby on March thirtieth, my first tweet I ever put up after I had this baby, my third child. My house is absolutely insane. It was the Stefan dig Straight, Nicko Sario and Jamiko Ryans are still out of here. Big Mad that they didn't win the awards. As if you talk about people dying in shock, I did when they did. These two didn't walk away with these awards in twenty twenty three in Vegas. So they are gonna shove it down our throats. They have Stefon Diggs on the roster now. And I didn't hate it. I was You would think I was delusional with lack of sleep three days after having my third child.
I was not.
I still stand by this tweet, and I'm excited to see the Texans, but frankly, it does feel good to have two teams and jerseys that were so fired up about, even to the depth of the case Keenum backup quarterback scenario. Akbar, honestly, you sold me. I was worried that we were going to have no juice at the quarterback spot, and here we are talking about case ke Keenum.
You still a lot.
I could hear Peter just like getting increasingly fired up about the case Kium highlights. Well, we're gonna hear it.
You loved it.
He loved it.
I know, Peter, Well, I get pissed off about executive of Deer Snubs.
Yeah, I did. I like that tweet.
You had three days after giving birth to a child, tweeting about the Houston Texans in the NFL Honors Jamie, you are, you are, you are football Family.
That's exactly right, all right. Inside Training Camp Live they're gonna be in Canton to get you set for the game tonight. They also have you covered Baltimore to talk about Lamar Jackson, of course, and then the mispersonality from the off season, Keon Coleman, who knows what he'll say yes from Bill's camp, and then a new Commander's head coach, Dan Quinn on the set for Inside Training Camp Live. It all begins NFL Network, twelve pm Eastern. Right here, don't change a channel. Speaking of the Commanders insiders, they're camped out. It's they probably roll their eyes, they say, hey guys, good morning. Footballs on at a new time. Can you get to your sites even earlier than you already have to be on for eight hours? Or Inside Training Camp Live. These guys are set up. They're going to find out how well Jade Daniels is faring in camp.
I want to see that James Daniels play.
But up next thirty five days until this season, we're going to test our knowledge on players, Peter, what.
Are we doing this a game called old Faces, New Places.
Let's see if we followed the off season moves.
As we thought we did.
You guys were gonna put you guys to the test, and you're gonna enjoy this one.
Okay, good Mone, welcome back.
You know, yesterday we were on the show and Jamie mentioned that Marcus Mariota is the backup quarterback.
In Washington and I had to think for a.
Second to say, oh, oh, yeah, yeah, Marcus Mariota is it. And it got me thinking, what o their familiar faces are in new places. It's early enough in training camp that it's okay to be wrong on these But as we talk about Jimmy Garoppolo the RAM and Gus Edwards the Charger, Let's play a game called old Faces, New Places.
You guys at home, you can play along.
You will know every one of these players, but can you guess them if I give you some clues about them and tell you what team they are on?
Jamie Ardall, you're the first one in the hot seat.
I don't know how much you are tracking the offseason waiver wire.
I don't like when Peter has the cars. He says, it's okay to be wrong on the You got all the answers.
This mark.
Everyone play along at home.
This is good, This is knowledge, this is education.
And this is fun, all right, Jamie. Yes, this player is now a.
Las Vegas Raider. He's a former first round pick. He's not exactly a pal or a friend of the Buffalo Bills. And on Hard Knock's episode four, he was mentioned as a top Giants free agent target, with a mention that he would play alongside his college teammate Dexter Lawrence.
Those are three clues? Can you tell me this old face in a new place.
Peter, I am classically terrible at remembering who former first round picks are because to me what their drafted. You're in the league law to me until you said Hard Knocks and I know that. Then it's Christian Wilkins, isn't it?
That is correct? That is correct. Christian Wilkins is.
Right, Jamie.
There he is one of the best defensive tackles in all of football. Christian Wilkins made the move from the Miami Dolphins and signed a mega deal to join Max Crosby on the defensive line in Las Vegas.
Jamie, you're on the board. Congratulations, well done, thank you.
I'm a little bummed out because he really gets under Josh Allen skin. But you know, what are you gonna do?
All right?
There you go now, scutch because you are not going to have squad, So Jamie, way to go.
They you I go, ochbar, yes, ockbar?
Are we ready?
Yep? Number two?
Okay, that's a Jets lugo.
Okay.
This player has played thirteen years.
In the league.
He's got a Super Bowl ring, but he did so as a backup player, did not play in the game, and because he is now with the Jets, he does not have to move his family at all, and did not move his family this off season. Who is this former Giant current Jet who is thirteen years in the league and has a Super Bowl ring?
Do I answer this like I'm on Jeopardy? Like who is? Do I have to say it?
I don't know.
They might have that copyright and do whatever you want.
It's fine, okay, suit me. Then who is Tyron Taylor?
Right now?
Oh, that's correct, Tyron Taylor. Tyron Taylor goes from.
The Giants to the Jets.
If you recall, Tyrod Taylor was not thrilled with the situation with Tommy DeVito last year.
The Giants did.
Offer him a deal this offseason, he joins the crosstown rival Jets. Tyrod Taylor is Aaron Rodgers' backup.
When you see that's not everyone knew that. That triggered it, so I appreciate it. I was like, backup in thirteen years? Like, who the heck has been backup for thirteen You you want to.
Ring backing up Joe Flacco?
Really well, guy, please not see him play at all this year. I don't want to see one down of Tyro.
We don't want to see any Tyrod Taylor this year.
We want to see both of them.
Got there, So the beats of the game now has to go like I should get one wrong to like make it a game.
These are all famous players, These are all famous players.
Washington Commander's logo.
Okay, this is a Super Bowl champion who want to ring with a division rival, a three time pro bowler and the husband of a fellow world class athlete.
I got it. I got it. Zach ert it.
Right well, zach.
Ertz the Washington Commander, And I don't think everyone realized that it was a quiet signing.
They brought in Echoler. Everyone went nuts. They brought in Bobby Wagner, everyone went nuts.
Zach Ertz, who played with Cliff Kings when they were in Arizona together. He joins, zach Ertz is going to be a Washington Commander this year.
I love this, yam.
This is a fundam.
Proud of us. That's getting them, all right.
He get thrilled.
Oh no, I'm thrilled. I'm thrilled. Okay, this one gets a little.
Harder, Jamie, Okay, all right.
This guy here is now a current New Orleans Saints. He's a former defensive Rookie of the Year.
He was an NFC Champion last year.
And this guy was drafted before Justin Herbert, before Ceedee Lamb, and before Justin Jefferson.
The defensive rookie, a former defensive Rookie of the Year, is on a new team. And he was an NFC champion last year, which means he played for the forty nine ers. NFC champion last year, NFC champion last year. Oh, I can see his face. He used to play for the Commanders. His name, you're on it. Well, someone just said it in my ear. He put I would not have known it, Chase Young I would not have known it.
Damn what I talk about the commanders right, time out, time out out.
There's so many things wrong with this time out.
Just my camera, get all the stuff out of here.
Give me just my so we're gonna Talk'N we're gonna talk. Get off, everyone else off, Jamie off, Chase Young Love.
There were so many problems with TV on that. Let me explain what's going on here. This is a game show, okay.
Number one, people are allowed to get questions wrong, especially.
When we got the first three right.
You got first.
So producers, when I hear you put it, I know we're new to the show. I know we've got new producers. I know there's we never never bail out the hosts on a quiz show.
Never.
If you're on the show, you can qualify to play, and it's okay to get something wrong. Secondly, Jamie, it's a TV professional.
Oh no.
Never never say they're telling me in my ears.
This is supposed be intimate action with the audience. You're not supposed to know what's going on in the production movie. We're not supposed to have these in our ear Jamie.
You know better, they're telling me in my ear. Now everyone was wrong on that one.
Jamie, you do not get Chase young right, you get it.
Wrong, and the producers you get a demeritu.
You get a demerito.
Yeah.
I want to throw a redit.
Back to the game, Show back to the game, Show back to the game.
My singles very sorry, give me my single?
All right?
Okay, akbar, you're up a right? Who is you ready?
All right?
Who is I don't know?
Twenty seventeen pro bowler. Okay, so this is a really good player in the league.
Two has played.
For the Colts, but he's also played for a lot of other teams.
And the last one, in his second.
Career game as a pro, lit up the Pittsburgh Steelers.
They won thirty four to three.
And he was the NFC not rookie, NFC offensive.
Player of the week.
Who is this? Current Kansas City Chiefs of the week? Current what player of the week in two thousand and seven?
The week?
We don't remember those.
Seventeen what I gave you a few clues, A few clues.
Just give me one clue.
I mean, is the offensive defense offense? He's offensive off.
I said, Okay.
I also said he he lit up.
He lit up the Steelers, So I gave something away.
So what position did he played?
Lit up? I mean anybody can light up. I mean a wide receiver could light up somebody. But he probably tell him in his ear. Nobody's in my ear.
Go go go follow that train of thought you just had.
Why are we quarterback?
A quarterback?
Quarterback?
Five seconds?
Mahomes?
There you go.
That is the question at hands.
Who is the backup?
The back of the Mahomes?
I'm not go.
Went all this stuff, all of this stuff. Give me my camera, everybody, I need my camera. Carson, you're my guy.
Go back.
We're good, bro, I know the family. I apologize. You're not the bat you are, Carson Wentz. That is not your name. I called you outder your name and I apologize. All right?
Why you like that?
They were boys?
Okay?
All right?
Kyle, whod I have up here the twenty fourteen FedEx Aaron Brown Player of the Week for Week six.
I remember that.
I remember who it was, Jonathan Stewart. What I got This player's grandpa was alright. This guy had a career high in sacks last year.
He played college football a few miles from where he plays now with the Panthers.
He plays with the Panthers.
Now he plays in the Panthers now.
Just signed with the Panthers.
And he's played on six different teams as an NFL player.
Six different teams does nothing for me.
High in sacks.
But if he's a few miles from the Panthers, now we'd be pay South Carolina right.
Uh, he could be Clemson, that could be Auburn, that could be North Carolina.
No, no, this guy changes teams every twenty minutes. He's always an incredible talent, but then he's always on an immediate team. And all we ever do on Good Morning Football is what do we think about landing spots for j.
Yeah.
Clowney rejuvenated his career with the Baltimore Ravens last year at a career high in sacks, and the Carolina Panthers, his hometown team, offered him real money to come play with Carolina.
He's in his thirties now.
Way, he just changed teams again. He's on the Broncos. Now he's on the Broncos.
I mean all he has to change teams.
Yeah, sorry, guys, change the logo. We have a tweet. Let's roll in the tweet, get them shrags?
What of these producers doing, guys?
Why would we give answers to Jamie?
It's okay, you didn't know.
Chase Young is on the Commanders. It's okay. That's the point of the game. He's on the Saints. Now, this is what we do.
Anyway, first time doing this game, I feel like that was a good refresher course in this job. Maybe the music was a little I will tinker with it.
Peter, you have to you have to, like like change these the clues up Man only sixteen Player of the Week in week two.
I've got a couple of notes.
I've got a couple of notes. A.
I don't know if we need like the NFL network music in the background.
Just chill, all right, We're good.
We're good, sophistic sophisticated palette for the music.
I don't know if we need that. Like that's very The worst part.
Was when you do one of these games, you're a little sensitive about how's it going on the questions too harder.
Than too easy.
The first three responses were all right, and then on the fourth response.
They fed her the answer like some should be wrong.
Are the games not working?
We don't and we don't have to say.
Jamie answers.
Also, it's a it's a tribute to you, Jamie, that football knowledge.
You don't need to be treated. Defense in their defense, the answer.
In their defense, I was gonna admit I was gonna be wrong. All I could think was that this guy I saw him in a commander I did not have the name, and it was just enthusiasm for the fact that I was going down the right pathway and the producer that shall not be named, I openly apologize to calling them out and also for making me look like a fool. Peter. It was a beautiful segment. Let's play it again. Inside Training Camp Live continues today at New Eastern. One of the camps that it t C Live will be visiting is it the Washington Commanders, where we find two of our hosts are insiders. Right now, this is dicey because we got two of them.
They have we have Ian And why is my chair so far.
Down the switch? Why don't you switch so I can.
Setting this up? That's why can I get a Jamie?
Hi? Jam right?
He say good morning, good.
Morning, good moring to you both, thank you for being with us, and just for a few minutes, put yourself on the side, give it all, give all the scoops, Tom Pella, Sero, and tell us what's been happening at the commander's camp that you've seen, because I know you've been all across the country.
Yeah, excited to see. Oh, I know you're really short, that's why.
Yes, you know what I'm saying.
Ok, I got it.
Now, Yeah, you gotta switch.
Excited to be a commander's camp to see how Jaden Daniels is doing. Rave reviews from AFAR. But you know, I only trust one pair of eyes when it comes to scouting football, and it's Ian Rappaports.
Yep.
I'm really looking forward to seeing him too. And look, I think for the commanders this was really a no brainer, right. I Mean, there was obviously the quarterback evaluation figure, but like, really, this was the guy early on in the process that stood out. The guy they targeted. Jayden Daniels was the guy they wanted to draft. And I think they heard a lot of really good things from LSU from previous stops. They knew about the arm talent. What they didn't know was the mental part of it, how well he would handle the football, operations, part checks at the line, getting in and out of the huddle, running plays, all of that stuff, Mike, and the fact that they did all this work and still are pleasantly surprised with their number two overall pick. That's a positive as far as leadership wise, as far as kind of swag wise, how he handles himself. This is really what you want of a franchise quarterback, and you pair him with Dan quinn Is. Things are a lot brighter here, Mike than I think they.
Used to be.
Definitely, you could just tell that by the number of fans that are in attendance and the line to come in here. And I don't know if we're sold out, Charlie we sold out? We sold out? Yeah, we're sold out, Charlie sold out. If Charlie says that, it must be true. Also excited to see what kind of veteran leadership, because remember free agency. I know you remember free agency. We were very busy those couple of earlists. This team signed a bunch of veterans and they were basically trying to establish a core of veterans that were going to show the rest of them how it's done. Not necessarily guys that were with dan Quinn in the passer, but just a corps of veteran zach Ertz, Bobby Wagner amongst those, Austin Eckler as well, and getting those guys together to establish what this program is going to be like under dan Quinn moving forward and to get off the ground running. And there's enough talent here that you could see this team winning some games this year.
Yeah.
And you know, as far as the veteran leadership and talent coman, this is all dan Quinn is very intentional, right, I mean, he knew he's done it before, wants to set the culture, wants to bring in a bunch of veterans who could not just teach what he does, or they'll bringing in someone like Bobby Waden can kind of do both, but just show what is a pretty young team like this is how you do things overall. So you mentioned zach Ertz, Austin Eckler as well. I mean these are guys who it's not just like, hey, let me show you what to do, I mean help you. It's like watch what I do, right, And I think Austin Eckler has been one of the best prepared pros for a very long time Bobby Wagner. Rare you see a off the ball linebacker playing as long and as well as he has. These are the kind of guys if you're a rookie you love to learn from.
All right, we got to wrap. So can you either send it back or I can just stop you from talking just by.
Pushing me down there? How far is pushed me down there?
Roll all the way to the capital.
Just push me? Yeah, that way?
Chrake Gee setting the culture for rap sheet. Making sure he's like six inches down the hill. Make sure he's off the show. Thanks guys, enjoy itc live way to carry it from Commander's camp, carrying it for the news and studio for us. Sherry Burris, good morning to you.
Good morning, Jamie Well. Packer's quarterback Jordan Love. He is having himself a week. First, he became the NFL's highest paid player, then crack in the NFL's top one hundred player list, debuting at number thirty four. His teammate j A, you're Alexander joining insight training camp.
I've talked about.
The growth of his quarterback. How is how is he looking different and leading differently?
Well, you know, I mean Jordan Love is going to be Jordan Love. He doesn't have to be anybody else but him, you know. And you know when guys get these kinds of contracts, man, the only focus is to do exactly what they've been doing. And that's what I feel like Jordan Love is going to do. I said he was the best quarterback last year, and his pay shows that he's the best quarterback again.
Staying very in the NFC, North Lions running back David Montgomery is skilled on and off.
The football field, and get this.
As a kid, he joined the Boy Scouts of America, actually earning the rank of Eagle Scout.
The highest rank possible.
He talked to Steve Weich and Cynthia Frielan about what life skills he's learned and even still using today.
I fix a lot of stuff, but I catch myself like time unnecessarily not just fiddling around. But it's kind of good then know that I can still do some of those things. Or like if I'm watching like Surviving or like take it in a fray, like y'all kind of said, like I can say, like you shouldn't do that, or it's cool, though.
Are you gonna try to get on one of those shows, of course, not.
All right.
We do, though, have some breaking news out of Tampas. NFL Network insatury Ian Rappaport is reporting Bucks All Pro tackle Tristan Wurz agreed to terms on a huge five year, one hundred and forty million dollar extension, making in one of the highest paid tackles in the league. Now, coming up next, we have another great guests as Jamie catches up with forty nine Ers tight end George Kittle. You know you don't want to miss this. Stay here with us.
Good Morning Football.
George Kittle joining us now to stir it up on behalf of Cup Noodle Stir Fry, powering this fantasy football season with delicious Asian noodles and the ultimate draft experience, Sweet Steaks. George, after Super Bowl fifty four, I have to go there. I'm so sorry you're on the field. Cameras catch you saying I'll be back. I'll be back with a vengeance. That was twenty twenty. Okay, so you get back February though. That must have been infuriating for you. What did the cameras catch you saying after this Super Bowl in Las Vegas that we're going to hear in terms of you returning to a Super Bowl.
I don't know if there's anything on that hot Mike, I would say, you know, in that fashion. You know, ourside was pretty sound after that one, and so it might be a very quiet audio tape.
Leaving that one.
Yeah, absolutely, And speaking of fans watching that transpire, all those frustrations, the mountain, the pushing of the boulder. During the season, Netflix also caught you and your family and everything that it took Monday through Saturday to get there. I do have a question you and your wife Claire. How does she get you to set the tone with the physicality on game day because she comes over and just gets you on the shoulders. What's that routine about?
Oh, you know, I see my family like two or three times on game day on the sideline, like during like the initial warm up, and when I go out there, my pads on. Like the last thing she says to me is, you know, go dominate today, and like she kind of physical shove from the sideline just to set the tone. And I just really appreciate that from her. Because Claire is a little bit of a halopeno. She's got a lot of spice to her and she just kind of gives me some of that energy which helps me out a lot on game day.
That could be a good fresh ingredient, perhaps to put on top of your cup noodles. Just a suggestion, I don't know. No rest for the weary for the forty nine ers. In the off season, Christian McCaffrey got married George, and you were there. Let me run a concept by you. Okay, So my husband his buddies, they have an award that they give out at weddings. It's not the MVP. It's called the MEG. Most Inappropriate Guests and if someone MiG if someone MiGs out, then you're the winner. You're the Meg of the wedding. Anyone you want to give the MEG to at the McCaffrey wedding.
Wow, I would say anybody won the MEG. I would say that between me and Greg Olsen we had the most fun.
Though, well obviously because you were probably fresh off training for it a tight university. I mean, is that also what you guys trained for when you get together all tight ends?
It is, we're just training. I'm just setting guys up for success as their wedding guests for the rest of the.
Summer, socially and on the football field, tight End University is just producing when it comes to that kind of stuff.
It really is.
You know, we had a success, you had a great turnout, and we had a lot of fun this year. You know when anytime you can get over seventy NFL tight ends in the same room and you listen to guys like Greg Ols and Travis Kelcey and myself talked football. You had a little some nuggets from Evan Ingram on running routes too. It's just such an experience. And then you guys see all the fun stuff that we do on the field, and you know, we had a concert this year with John Party, Jelly, Rol, Chase Rice and others, and you know, just be able to put that on for all the players that come in and spend their spend three days with us and their and their wives and their family. It's it's a really wonderful event. I'm just happy to success at its head.
I really think it's amazing that you guys have branded the position as it is from a personality perspective, and the fact that the names that you mentioned you really bring the young guys in and it's not adverse era. You want to teach them how to make the position better within the league. I think it's been awesome.
Oh yeah, I mean and at the end of the day too, are we We're like Titans. Really we're competing for wins obviously as a team, but Titans, we're not really competing against each other. Besides, like you know, there's Pro Bowls and All Pros. But at the end of the day, all we want is for the tighten position to kendon to grow and get better. So then you see a lot more at twelve than thirteen person out there, and you just got more tight ends on the football field playing their dreams of just playing in the NFL. So just trying to get everybody the best chance of making a roster.
And if they get to that level, like George Kittle, then they can have brand sponsorship like cup Noodles. Learn how you can meet George Kittle and win other exclusive prizes at Cupnoodles Fantasy Draft dot Com. George, you are excellent. We appreciate you. Thank you for returning once again to GMFB.
Oh are you kidding me?
Another the fact that you guys are now longer on the East Coast waking up at four am. It's even better.
It is better because we're all at the California experience. Now we're connected, we're practically teammates.
Hey, we really are.
I'll see you guys up in the bay. So here's the deal.
We keep a running power ran thinking of head coaches on this team, not in terms of how good theyre as a coach, but how much we like them and how much they like us, how much mutual love there is between.
Them and the show. This gentleman is number one. I'm a gmf B head coach power ranks.
The head coach of Buffalo Bills John.
Mcge I'm great. How are you guys doing.
Thrilled to talk to number one.
You know your number one.
We know your number one, and one.
Of the reasons you number one is you always share stuff coach about your family and what you got going on. So before we get into the season, we've had a bunch of time off here on the show, and I know you got some time off during the summer. I hope tell us something you did, tell us something you did.
With the family, like let us in a little bit. We love this stuff.
Yeah, I appreciate you asking great great family, great summer as a family, going all over the country to football camps with my son, to softball tournaments with my daughter, swim meets with my youngest daughter.
Just a crazy but fun summer.
Oh that's great, and Coach, I know, summer can be fun. But then on the other side, summer it also means that it's work time, especially when it comes into training camp and you guys are at Saint John Fisher College for camp. How special is that environment over there?
Oh, it's incredible. I think it's really unique. You know, when I was in Philadelphia, we went away.
To Lehigh University, and then in Carolina we went away to Wafford College. And now being in Buffalo, this is unmatched. I mean, we go away to Saint John Fisher as you mentioned, and just incredible. It's an unbelievable opportunity to engage with our fans almost really on a daily basis. And as you guys know, we've got some passionate.
Fans and Coach, just give us geographical locations for our West Coast viewers who may not be familiar. Set the scene where that is from, where you guys are in camp, or where the facility is.
Right so we're in real close to Rochester.
It's a small town called Pittsford, New York. Kind of a Norman Rockwell type of town, very quaint, just a slice of America if you will.
Okay, that's a good question.
I never even thought to do that for the West Coast. We were we're smart. K far off Bars a new teammate at the table here coach, and you know what it's like when new faces, new names come into your building and how you have to go about your day maybe a little differently to get to know them and make sure that they are feeling welcome. You're off season with your team. There were headlines, one of the major one involved trading away of Stefan Diggs. How are you approaching this camp differently with the new names, new personalities that you want to make sure are getting up to speed with your team.
Well, any year, you've got to start over, really from square one and rebuild it.
Every year is a new year.
Every team is a new team, and we've enjoyed the challenge as a coaching staff, and it's been interesting to learn about some of the new veterans that we have and their backgrounds, their family lives, as well and kind of their stories and then to welcome the new rookies we have this year and led by Keon Coleman, and he's off to a great start in training camp. And it's just to me one of the great challenges of being a coach and kind of putting the pieces together and see how see how it all works together as we get through training camp and into the season.
Coach.
I had to speak out on it last week when Brandon came out so verbally the GM Brandon being about that. Anonymous executive who questioned Josh Allen, I know.
You've been asked about it. You don't want to talk about it.
How do you handle those things when there's stories that have nothing to do with your football team, but guys like us in the media bring them up to you because it makes good fodder on television and radio.
Yeah, well you said it makes uh, it makes good news and attract some listeners, I'm sure, and some debates and whatnot. It's all gossip, really is what it is. And we try not to get involved in that. And I know who Josh is. That's the most important thing. We know who Josh is. As teammates know who Josh is, and we're just fortunate to have a quarterback and a person like Josh.
In Buffalo and what an amazing leader he's been.
Coach, you know, John Holway had said that his biggest regret not drafting Josh back then in that draft when it was in Texas.
What do you.
Remember about that day and that night, everything where you were in life and just all the how that went down.
Right, You're never sure with where we were drafting, if we if we were able, if we were going to be able to move up in the draft, and and things worked out to where we were able to get Josh, And I mean just for a fit, right, there was there was some really high quality quarterbacks in that draft. I think Baker went first overall, and but we were just targeting Josh in the entire time, whether we had drafted first or whatever. And I think more than anything, you know, people see the rocket front arm and how smart he is and how mobile he is, and how competitive he is. He's a dog right on the field. And but I think more importantly than that, or just as importantly, is really his fit with the with the community in Buffalo and Western New York and Bill's fans.
I mean, he's just he's a guys guy.
He's got that hit factor, and he's obviously a real joy to be around and a joy to coach.
Coach, we love our table here. It's one of the most precious parts of GMFB. And there's only one person on the planet who's ever put their bare feet on this table, and his name is Mac Collins, and he's on your team now. Mac Collins apparently doesn't use utensils, he doesn't need vegetables, and he just walks around barefoot. Did you have any kind of stipulation for when he came to Buffalo to say, like, son, this is Buffalo, you're going to have to wear shoes in December, Like walk us through this personality and how you're approaching Mac Collins.
Well, I got to talk to Brandon about that because I'm still that was something we didn't know about. So I'm not really sure if we're doing our job on the scouting end of things, because those are things we need to know.
Right, We've got half of our team.
We've got half of our team now, including our offensive coordinator. This morning walking to our team meeting on campus with no shoes on, those socks and it's definitely interesting. And then the part about not using utensils, I still haven't figured that one out. I know, the grounding when it comes to the shoes or no shoes, the no utensils. I'm not really sure what the endgame is on that, but yeah, I'm hoping that I'm hoping that we don't transition to that element of what Mac what Mac does as well, but he's been an awesome addition. He's a character, as you guys know, and it brings great energy.
So do you, coach.
We always we always love having you on and we always learn something about you. I would describe you as a very patient man. You have patience as a virtue, and it's because you can get through those youth swim meets that go on twelve straight hours they never end.
That's got to be where it comes from. But we know that patients is going to pay off on the football field this fall. Seohn, So thank you so much.
I appreciate it. Great to be with you guys.
You got it man, go Bills.
Great to see you, coach.
That's the number one see guys, Hey, I can't I can't wait to see you guys on the East coast again sometime soon.
All right, cool, Hey, coach real quick you know it, very good, coach, Real quick Tail mccollins. Akbar says, real men play football without cleats. He'll know what that is. We hang out during the summer every time, so let him know that.
I think I'll do that.
Guys, thank you, thanks for having me on you coach when we come back. It's an epidemic of not using utensils in the Bills training facility. No, we're going Olympic level version of Throwdown Thursday. It's an oldie book goodie for GMFB, and it's returning in Los Angeles and New York. The guys are there too,
