By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) says they have noticed an increase of unregistered medical practitioners across the country. In the latest incident, the HPCSA conducted an inspection at Mpumalanga province where a Congolese national, has been practicing as a locum or stand in for Dr Kaleu Sambayi without being properly registered with Council since August 2023. The accused was arrested and held at the Kwaggafontein SAPS for violating Section 17(1) of the Health Professions Act while Dr Sambayi has been reported to the Medical and Dental Professions Board for hiring an unregistered locum.
