By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) says they have noticed an increase of unregistered medical practitioners across the country. In the latest incident, the HPCSA conducted an inspection at Mpumalanga province where a Congolese national, has been practicing as a locum or stand in for Dr Kaleu Sambayi without being properly registered with Council since August 2023. The accused was arrested and held at the Kwaggafontein SAPS for violating Section 17(1) of the Health Professions Act while Dr Sambayi has been reported to the Medical and Dental Professions Board for hiring an unregistered locum. By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - The KwaZulu-Natal Subsistence Fisherfolk Forum has given the local Economic Development, Tourism & Environmental Affairs department one week to respond to their demands or further mass action will be taken. This after scores of fisher folk embarked on a mass march along the Durban beach front earlier this week demanding access be granted to fishing spots which were used for decades before the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup. They say a year prior to the event, these spots were closed off and never reopened among other issues such as alleged harassment. Spokesperson for the Forum, Desmond D'Sa says for the vast majority of these people, fishing is the only means to feed their families and put their children through school...

By Newsbreak Producer Taliesha Naidoo - The IEC has reminded South Africans that the deadline for Special vote applications closes today at 5pm. The Commission has so far received over a million applications for special votes with the Eastern Cape provinces having the highest number of applications sitting at over two-hundred thousand. Earlier this week, the IEC distanced itself from a widely circulated message that everyone over the age of 60 had permission to cast a special vote on 27 and 28 of this month - at the polling station where they are registered. The commission says the general principle of election administration is that voters must cast their ballots where they are registered. However, if they intend to be in a different voting district on voting day, they must notify the commission of their intended absence and identify the voting station where they wish to cast their vote...
