02/20/26: Gov. Armstrong appointed Mark Friese to the North Dakota Supreme Court earlier this week. Mark will begin his term on March 9 and succeed retiring Supreme Court Justice Daniel Crothers. Mark has practiced criminal defense law and civil litigation for 25 years. He is a shareholder with the Vogel Law Firm in Fargo and clerked for North Dakota Supreme Court Justice Dale Sandstrom for one year.

Joel Heitkamp is joined by Laurie, and later on, his sister, former United States Senator, former Attorney General, and State Tax Commissioner for North Dakota, Heidi Heitkamp, to have a conversation about the breaking Supreme Court ruling on tariffs. 

The Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump’s far-reaching global tariffs on Friday, handing him a significant loss on an issue crucial to his economic agenda.

The 6-3 decision centers on tariffs imposed under an emergency powers law, including the sweeping “reciprocal” tariffs he levied on nearly every other country.
