Over the weekend, Kathleen Hagan gathered with family members at the Williston Area Recreation Center (ARC) to cheer on her granddaughter, Katie Ledecky, as she competed in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Ledecky captured another Olympic gold medal and shattered the world record in the 400m freestyle competition. Ledecky's swimming skills are not surprising to her grandmother, Kathleen, as the Hagan/Ledecky family has a history of swimming success. The new pool at the ARC was even named after her grandfather, the EJ Hagan, MD Natatorium. But perhaps what makes Hagan so proud of her granddaughter is the fact that she remains humble and kind, which she explains in this interview with Joel Heitkamp and KFGO Sports Director Jack Michaels.
