(00 - 4:24) - February is American Heart Month and Frankie welcomes Ron Beer, Chief Administration Officer for Geisinger Medical Center's Northeast Region, to discuss Cardiovascular disease and its impact across the region. Cardiovascular disease has had a significant impact on Beer's family, and states that roughly 350 thousand individuals go into cardiac arrest outside of a health facility. The American Heart Association has a goal to double the survival rate of cardiac arrest by 2030, and has made a local initiative by offering blood pressure monitors at area libraries and creating National Hypertension Control clinics. (4:25 - 30) Marcy welcomes back Joe Cooper and Dave Olander to further discuss veterans issues. Keeping the theme of positivity after serving, the dup discuss how many vets go on to live fulfilling lives after leaving the military - be it through content creation, hobbies, opening small businesses and more - and the importance of recognizing everything they has preserved and triumphed over. They talked about how vets are connecting in a way never seen before through content creation, including with each other and civilians. We also discuss the importance on filing VA Claims - which Dave assists area vets in doing - as well as what a VA Claim is, how it works, types of claims and more. Dave discusses his own history serving along with his claim process, and says it can be difficult for vets to navigate. They elaborate on the VA Rating system and the importance of impact or witness statements from friends, family members and employers. Once you initiate the process of submitting a claim you have one year to complete it. Most - if not all - veterans have the right to a claim. You can learn more about VA claims and get a multitude of resources by visiting www.va.gov
