West Coast’s Jeremy McGovern weighs in on the drama surrounding eagles captain Oscar Allen meeting with rival clubs. And West Coast Fever’s, Sunday Aryang, joins us ahead of what Nat is calling a Grand Final warm up!

This is Sean spot in podcast form.

Oh, how good to have the governor in the house at the moment. Of course, he's not playing this week, went off in the second half against the Dockers on the weekend.

Gov, how's the groin first up?

Yeah, it's not too bad, ye, getting me back in the pretzel for it. No, it's yeah, it's not too bad. It's obviously frustrating for sure, but it could have been a lot worse. But yeah, probably two to four sort of weeks we're looking at it. Yeah, but yeah, straight into rehab. So I'm going to try and trim it down to two as quickly as possible.

The vision didn't look like there was much when I was watching it live and I picked it up and I was like, oh, jeseus, he's a bit ginger here.

No, I did it before. Oh yep. Yeah.

It all happened on a lead yep, chasing Tracey. So I was telling myself it was cramp for a couple of minutes there and then kept trying to keep going, and yeah it wasn't.

So it's tough to tell when you've got a trainer and you've got cramp, right and you go it's in my groin.

It's to get them to.

Stretch it out for you ash.

Especially when it's right up high. Yeah, yeah, right up, which I was worried about.

But because lots of people thought that you were it was your head injury that was that.

No, it's not. That was just a flesh wind.

It was a tough quarter that third quarter, just on your head injury.

Because there's a lot of blood coming out.

Do you deliberately not wipe the blood because it looks pretty cool or do you.

No, I didn't know it was bleeding that much when I first took my hand off, I was I've got a bit of blood because that I'm pretty sure.

Don't quote me. I think this is the first time I've ever split made.

Open, Is that right?

Yeah? I don't normally split.

Yeah, but you're getting more delicate.

Is it moisture? Extra moisture? Yeah.

I didn't think it was bleeding that much, and then yeah, obviously it was.

So it is actually a decent sides cut, because sometimes you do bleed a lot from that area anyway, and like I've seen very small cuts bleed as much as you did, but this is about an inch long, yeah cut.

And it just nicked me, So I didn't think it was that big at all, But yeah, I get off for that and then grown so yeah, but it's all part of footy and what are you going to do with And I'll yeah, hit rehab and go back as quick as possible.

It was problematic for the team at the time because Harry Edwards had been subbed off like momentarily before that happen, Garv, and all of a sudden, the two key defenders are off the ground and what do you.

Do then, Yeah, it's just poor timing.

Would I wouldn't have subbed out the key defender like I just think that was a silly move.

That's my personal opinion.

On the outside bringing a runner or whatever the case is and swap a dude that's not having to getting a kick during the game. But you don't get the big fellows like this don't grow on trees. Look at them.

Look at it, split head tour growing at just keeps going. Hey, Garv. That that aside from last week.

Let's talk about the big news this week, and of course Sam Mitchell, which is it's interesting.

The way he's been playing this lately.

He's been getting out on the front foot and going to entice players that he wants to join their football club. On's Oscar Allen and that was we knew about this a little while ago. But for Oscar to be caught out having a cup of tea because he was caught out coffee, it wasn't a great look. But I do feel like when we saw him in the press conference yesterday that everyone was just coming for him and he's only a young man and it was like he'd murdered someone.

Yeah, wasn't it.

They carry on, There was a lot of carry on.

I mean, ultimately, it's not a great look when your captain is, you know, looks like he's actively seeking to move to another club.

That's that's not a great look.

But also it's professional sport, like it happens in every realm of business where somebody might be chat to a potential future employer.

It's not that's not that uncommon.

No, not at all. I will you've got to be careful. I mean, you've got to be careful.

I'm in that position FaceTime.

But so Chris Scott was asked this, and Chris Scott, in my opinion's best coach in the AFL, and he's very pragmatic about every situation. He was saying, well, let's have a listen to him and I'll get GUV to talk about this afterwards. And that is that you know, when people are starting to, you know, come at a player like Oscar Allen, this is his thoughts.

I mean one grow up like the old timers who just can't bear this stuff that opposition teams could be talking to their teammates. And now the narrative seems to be as it's been related to me, Well, we all accept that it's okay and that it happens, except if you're the captain then you can't do it. Well, that's a nonsense as well, So is it a good look? The people that don't like it, if I reckon, don't really understand the system that well. And I would counter that if it was so important that this conversation needed to be had, they would probably be a little bit more guarded about it.

He went on for quite some time and he was really defending the situation. The person is important as well, GUV. How was it at the football club for you guys?

I look, to be honest, personally, it was no different until it got out and everyone started making a bigger deal of it. Like I know Ossie really well of course, So for me, there was not one tiny bit of worry that Oscrallen is not going to give us absolutely everything. He's done it for years ever since he's been the footy club. He's been one of the best club And I've seen and I know that no matter what, whether he wanted to go, stay, whatever he was doing, because I've been through it, players have been through it.

Yes, good decisions to make.

I just knew that there was whether he met with other clubs, he was one hundred percent. He is one hundred percent in at West Coast.

Yes. So for me personally, on a personal level, was I was ever.

Really worried about his commitment for this season happened.

That's the only thing I think players care about is how committed you are right now when you're at the football club.

Because things can change, you can get traded, you can get no.

What's really important is what Cane Corns thinks of.

But yeah, it's going to happen there.

But when he was speaking to the player group, did you like I wanted to stop? How you don't have to explain it?

It was like he was hung out to dry.

But yeah, look, yeah, it's very yeah, like not that he's hung out to dry.

I just for me personally. You got to ask all the other boys. Everyone's got their.

Own opinions, but my view on it was mate, you don't need to apologize at all.

This is this is fine.

You don't question his leadership.

I do not question it one bit. I'm not not one ounce of question for me. That's the reason Oscar's our captain, because the way he conducts himself around the footy club, the way he conducts himself around the team, that's exactly why he's there. He still does have a right, yes to set himself up for the future, whether hopefully that's with us. For sure, that's exactly what I'm hoping for. But also at the same time, just because I think he's got the capacy on his head, that means he's not allowed to do anything, if that makes sense.

Ideally, don't get.

Caught if you if you are having these conversations right after he did. Yeah, I just I just felt a little bit unfair at times on people having to go with him.

There's a lot of scrutiny on him. Yeah, the time, stuff that happens all the time.

Yeah, so I think if you take the timing the cap'sy out of it, it's probably not even a conversation. So yeah, in my eyes, I back him in one hundred percent. And I'm hoping he's south West Coast, Yeah for sure, And I'm sure the club and him are trying to work it out, which I hope they are.

But yeah, for me, I've got no.

Playing with him then directly against him also would Yeah, you might have to mat.

When the Freemont doctors were courting you and trying to line your pockets with all the money, did you meet with them at all?

Just leave it to your manage? Yah know, I'm met. Yeah, I met with Ross.

Where'd you go? Did you go out for?

No?

We didn't do it publicly, very clandestine.

Yeah, so that's like that's a thing.

So what does Ross come over wearing a fake mustache or something? Is that what happens or.

No, it was me in the in the massage. No, I just did it. Probably I'm a manager's house. This is fair a few years ago now Yeah, yeah, but that's it's happening all.

The manager's house.

That's the smart way to do it. Because the manager manages more than one player.

Yeah, now we've given away the secret, but yeah, no, it's it's such a common thing.

That's the thing.

I think for players now in this day and age, everyone knows that this is sort of happening.

Of course it's happening.

Party that as much movement as there is without it happening, so much more movement. Yeah, for all of the movement that there is, you've got to multiply probably by three or four the amount of chats that are going on, because not everybody moves, even if they're having the conversation, they might be sticking around as you did.

Yes, there's yeah, it's when I was going through it was a little bit.

Now it's yeah, crazy.

So Gave is there worried because I brought this up yesterday. I've never known the West Coast Eagles to lose players ever, and Fremantle have our in their day because we met mentioned Lockie Neil two brand loads for God's sake, you know what I mean. And you know Jesse Hogan didn't work out for Frio at all. He had these other issues, but he's the common metalist of last year. And Frey, I can't you know, so you lose players button, is there a worry that other players and you lost time last year and is every chance Oscar could stay or go It might be someone else. Is that a worry that other people are looking or is it the fact that what you're coming back with we've moved on from those times.

It's not a worry.

It's just the way that it is now in the position we're as a footay club.

Yeap.

Obviously we're making changes as we have the last few years, and I'm sure the club's trying to do the best thing for the football club in the future. I'm hoping that Oscar Allen is there. I would have loved for Tom Bras to be there, but at that time and in those circumstances, it wasn't so for me. It's just very much we're going to back the club, you know what they're doing. I'm sure that they do one Oscar. But then Oscar's got decisions as well. It's a two way thing. Obviously the club would love to keep players, but players around them league now can demand more money because.

Certain positions, that's.

Where they are on the ladder, and old timing and all these different little things come into it, so.

You can't be right somebody making it taking a job because it pays better like that's people do that all the time in.

Every Yeah, I don't know the full circumstances. We're all assuming. Everyone's assuming because no one really knows.

I'm sure that it'll come to a head at some stage, but yeah, for us, it's just for me very much. You got to back the footy club in and decisions that they're making. And then also you can't get upset for Oscar Allen if the decision that the club wants to make or other players doesn't suit that.

Individual players have different motivations too. Some some genuinely don't feel like they gel with the coach or that the environment is right for them, so they want to try a different club for those reasons, and others that it's just a financial thing shoring up their future for their family.

There's another aspect to this, and if the West Coast Eagles have looked at teams that have fired back up the ladder, and I presume that Richmond will be one of them in the shore to turn because the fact that they've got all these draft picks, So the Eagles could see this as an opportunity where and don't jump in.

Here at all.

But if you Foscar Allen, we're going to pay him seven hundred I was going to say number seven hundred grand And if he wants more than that, we're not going to pay him. And otherwise we will get two draft picks for him. We're going to get a draft pick from being down the bottom anyway. So therefore we're going to have this cachet of young talent and we're able to bring in and we're going to fast track our development. And the other part to that that Hawthorne did that. And once Hawthorne was able to get the young talent after a few years two drafts, they did it in all three drafts. Then they are able to then go to the free agency market and go, hey, look, come play with Jerry McGovern.

You your old fella. We're going to be very successful. Look how good he is, Look how good Harley Reed is.

Come and play with these guys, and all of a sudden, boom, you're back in the finals race and you're off to the races.

Yeah, that's like.

I said, with the timings and where teams are arts and all the different So Hawks are a big one right now, with obviously Mitchell meeting with a lot of people because that's the position that they're in. Yeah, so it's all just the timing of it of everything. And unfortunately for Oscar and the club right now in this time, there in this and it's come out. But for me, one percent support on Oscar and I'm back in the club in as well, So whatever happens. Yeah, I'm more than more than comfortable with Oscar Allen still being our captain. I'm a little bit flat that people don't want him to be captain.

Right, I don't know people from the outside saying yes, that's right, Yeah, well yeah.

That's yes, that's yeah. Everyone's got their opinion for sure.

But for me, you're the one who has the same an Oscar.

Oscar and Dugo. I'll back them into the hills. So yeah, hopefully we can all move on from this one.

Yeah, exactly, we won't have and you're growing. We'll focus on Thanks Sean's fort.

In podcast Farm Sunday Are Sunday Sunday, welcome back.

Thank you.

I'm glad to be back again. It's honestly I'm being here with you guys.

Honestly, say the shree Hey Sunday.

That's been saying all week that she made a big call that this could be the Grand Final match. Right, so if we look into this, but the season starts for you guys with a couple of absolute crackers. You got five birds next to the Vixen, So we don't want to get too far down the track. But coming at you every week is a new team that's in for a big, big fight.

Yeah, definitely, there's each week having a team coming to us with a big fight. But for us, it's exciting. It's like the first couple of games of the season. I think you've still got that energy. You're super ready for it. We've worked so hot in the last like twenty two weeks trying to get to this point, so I think we've got what it takes to be able to win those games.

So yeah, looking forward to that now.

We don't want to like you know, Harbor on last season, but you guys, you missed the Grand Final by one, Like you know, it was a tight tussle, so you know, there's a time for redemption, That's what I'm saying. Yeah, it was so it was a narrow loss that was heartbreaking, really definitely heartbreak.

And it's been the same for the last two years in a row. So I think we're really ready to like stop that using by one point in the finals. So yeah, looking forward to what the season.

Yes, for us.

Winning by one, that'd be good.

It'd be great. Honestly, I want them to fill the pain the.

Exactly that's right, That's exactly right, Sunday.

When it comes to most seasons getting underway, everyone's just done with pre season, right because you've just got your ass kicked really for months and months. Can you tell us what your running measurements are done?

So someone's brady, they.

Do you know, two K one ks and stuff like that. How do you do your fitness tests?

Yeah? So for us with fitness testing, we do the yoyo. Yeah. I've never done that, very very hard. Yeah, I reckon. It's one of the toughest ones that I've done.

And usually we would do that like start of pre season, and then we'll do somewhere in the middle, and then at the end and that last Yoo test, you know that you've like finished pre season.

Like a big test ross similar test.

Yeah, yeah, but then like instead of like continuously running, you've got like a break after like doing your lap, so you would go to the end of the court and back and then your rest for like I think it's like five seconds or something like that. Oh huge, dressed so big, right, honestly take all the air I can in that late five seconds that we've got.

But yeah, it's really yeah, really high.

Do they take you out to Perry Lakes or any of the ovals around Matthews and just and you have to do four hundreds and you know, or repeat efforts.

No, we don't really do long distance stuff like we do do repeated efforts and stuff like that, but it'll probably be over like the thirty or the sixty or like thirty seconds on thirty seconds off.

But it's the nature of the.

Sport is you're not No, you can't go on that fas Yeah.

Exactly, exactly, Probably do four hundred in games, yeah.

Yeah, yeah, but it's all a very high speed, like it's very explosive short bursts.

Yeah, a lot of change directions, yes, like yeah, very short and sharp things that we do fromness.

I was blown away when Kelsey Brown was saying she had lost weight since not playing because she's not doing the weights work. So in terms of your preparation, what's your weight sessions like and how many do you do so.

During the preseason we usually do three to four.

You definitely do end up losing so much weight when you're not in the gym, Like even for me, like from when I started to now, like I used to be a stick when I was younger, so I've definitely gained a lot of.

Muffle not being a sticky.

Yeah, well it was way worse, but no, it is just like crazy and amazing to see, like the transition that you go from just like being in the gym like twenty four to seven and how much it really does make you stronger and just build you up.

So yeah, we do it a lot. I guess they want us to be stronger.

So yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you want to be strong strong about ball, don't we? So the Swifts, how are we going to take them down? All this we as the team because I'm involved.

Yeah, well, everyone does have to really be a part of it, especially like at RAC, like I reckon the fans, Yeah, a big job at trying to bring us along.

They're really like our eighth player out there. So with the Swiss really just have to shut down their attack.

I remain like, yeah, give them nothing, don't let them be able to see Grace in the circle. And if I guess, if you do that and with other game plans that I probably can't save. But if we if we do that, I reckon, we'll be able to.

Yeah, so shut that.

So she's a shooter and Helen how and of course is the goal attack. So yeah, yeah, she's going to be your assignment.

I take it.

Yeah, Helen would definitely be my job. It is going to be very She's very She's amazing, and I reckon every time I've played her it has been really tough. So I just got to like lock in just doing my job and just being able to work her the whole game. And if we do roll those subs and have Fran in their Ruth and then it's just everyone doing their individual jobs to just take it down.

And so Ruth's your sister.

How do you go versus playing say with Fran versus playing with Ruth, do you have like a more of a like.

A six yeah sixth Sen's kind of thing going on?

Yeah, there is kind of yeah like that going especially especially like with our defensive coach. I really want to sit talk in the circle and just those comfort like yeah, can I get in there? And it's like silent because we.

Can know where. I mean, that's a real bonus. It is definitely, but also creepy. Yeah, you just see us on call like nothing.

But how many in your family?

There's four of us?

And what are the others do? And what we now know? Your two sisters? Sorry, the two girls.

So there's Rose, she used to play netball, she plays basketball and now she's said that she's retired sports. She's only twenty six, but she's and then a younger brother, John, who plays basketball.

Yeah okay, I high achievers.

Yeah, definitely high achievers. I think we just all compete against each other.

So that's how we chely.

Goes along way.

Yeah, I mean when you do you talk to a lot of elite athletes, then most of them were driven by having an older or younger sibling who was really good at.

The start sport.

Yeah. Yeah, for sure.

It's a great motivator, isn't it Want to be better than your sister.

Because my sister used.

To be a shooter, so I always wanted to beat her when we were training against each other.

So we were always competing on the courts.

Your parents sports people. Was the fact, that's just the community you grew up in.

I think it's just the community we grew up in, like in Midval, like there was just like a lot of sports going on. Like the schools that we went to, there was always constantly sports happening. But yeah, like our parents weren't very much like sporty people, Like they were good partners and stuff, but yeah, never played for the ball or anything like that.

So wow, yeah, didn't pick it up from them.

That's amazing that now you pay for Australia.

Incredible.

Well, we can't wait until the first game on Sunday RBO. It's going to be brilliant. Thank you so much for coming Sunday.

Thank you.

Bring it home.
