Diesel prices are surging, farm equipment sales remain under pressure, and used machinery is becoming an increasingly important option for farmers heading into 2027. On this episode of Moving Iron, Clinton Griffiths talks with Casey Seymour, Curt Blades of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, and Machinery Pete about the forces shaping today's equipment market and what buyers and sellers should watch in the months ahead.

Casey Seymour breaks down the impact of rising diesel prices, the proposed government investigation into equipment pricing, and why farmers should carefully evaluate their machinery needs before making their next purchase. He also shares insights on equipment-buying seasons, financing incentives, and where buyers may find opportunities in the current market.

Curt Blades discusses the continued slowdown in new equipment sales, the outlook for a potential market rebound, the benefits of upgrading existing machinery, and the ongoing shortage of agricultural equipment technicians.

Machinery Pete joins the show from Georgia to share highlights from recent auctions, explain why exceptionally well-maintained used equipment continues to command strong prices, and offer his outlook for the November and December auction season.

Plus, the team discusses harvest challenges, equipment maintenance, and why having a clear marketing plan is critical when market volatility creates uncertainty.

Moving Iron: Moving Iron: Diesel Prices Surge as Farm Equipment Sales Slide

Uncertainty is the new normal for farmers—and it's reshaping equipment decisions. Rising fuel costs, geopolitical tensions, and election unknowns are stacking up. Casey Seymour, Greg “Machinery Pete” Peterson and Clinton Griffiths dive into the ag equipment market.

Moving Iron: Rising Costs Driving Shift to Used Equipment

The ag equipment market is flashing a turning point, and if you buy, sell, or finance iron, this is the episode you need to hear. Casey Seymour says the combination of stronger commodity prices, rising auction values, and cautious optimism across farm country could make the next 90 days the cheapest window to buy for a long time.

Clinton Griffiths and Casey kick things off from the Moving Iron Summit in Louisville with a sharp read on where machinery demand is headed, why the auction market is often the canary in the coal mine, and why retail buying usually follows about six months later. Casey breaks down the timing he’s watching now, why end-of-year quoting activity is picking up, and how producers who already locked in inputs are starting to revisit equipment needs.

Then Michelle Rook joins to put the broader market picture into focus. She explains how harvest delays, soybean basis pushes, standability concerns in corn, and expensive drying are shaping the mood in the western Corn Belt. She also unpacks the diesel squeeze, the reality of 40-year-low distillate inventories, and why any export restriction would create a chain reaction across jet fuel, gasoline, and global supply. Add in the latest China trade truce extension, soft export demand for wheat, and the possibility of more winter wheat acres, and you get a picture of a market that is still moving in a dozen directions at once.

Finally, Marshall Seese, of Lahzo shows how AI sales agents are changing the dealership game. He explains how live website conversations beat static lead forms, how dealerships can capture higher-intent buyers after hours, and why integrating with inventory data makes the experience feel human instead of robotic. From matching shoppers to similar equipment when a dealer is out of stock to moving the conversation into SMS and Messenger, Marshall lays out a practical way to turn more website traffic into real sales.

Moving Iron: The Diesel Squeeze That Could Reshape Farm Costs and Freight

The ag equipment market may be showing early signs of a turnaround as used equipment values begin to strengthen and manufacturers start bringing workers back to production facilities. Clinton Griffiths has conversations with Casey Seymour, Greg "Machinery Pete" Peterson, and Curt Blades of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers discussing what those trends could mean for farmers, dealers and the broader equipment industry.

The conversation covers high diesel prices, rising interest rates, tariff uncertainty, supply chain challenges and the importance of having a long-term equipment and parts strategy heading into harvest. With farmers operating tighter fleets and putting more hours on fewer machines, planning and equipment efficiency are becoming increasingly important.

Looking ahead, Blades discusses the potential for an equipment market recovery, changing crop acreage, growing productivity and the factors that could shape demand through 2027 and beyond.
