An amazing chat with community hero Edwin Villemaire! He dropped the puck alongside Ottawa Senators legend Daniel Alfredsson for Hockey Talks night, presented by Bell Lets Talk, in support of mental health!
Edwin created the book, 'The Boy Who Feared The Ice', when he was 5 with help from Mom Tabitha and Dad Patrick. He autographed and sold them pregame and during the first intermission and quickly sold out. In total Edwin raised over $500 for The Sens Foundation.
The story is based on Edwin's own experiences and worries about playing hockey, even though his Dad is the coach!
It started as way to help Edwin manage the anxiety, Edwin’s parents suggested he write his worries down. He dictated every thought from serious fears to silly scenarios while Dad typed and Mom helped him work through each one. That list soon grew into a story.
When Edwin asked to turn it into a book to help other kids facing similar fears, the answer was yes. The result is The Boy Who Feared the Ice - a warm, encouraging reminder that even the biggest “what ifs” can be faced one brave step at a time.
