Morning Shot: Why are the trillions of dollars needed for net-zero not a cost?

View descriptionShare

"Avoid complacency but don't adopt “catastrophic thinking”.

Speaking at the recent Ecosperity Week organised by Temasek, Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam says that the investment needed to push us along on our net-zero journey is not a cost.

Drawing from a buzz phrase made popular by the Chinese, Mr Tharman noted that too much climate pessimism leads to people ‘lying flat’.

On this episode of Morning Shot, Zhu Wenjun, Deputy Director of the Insurance Risk and Finance Research Centre and Associate Professor at NTU’s Nanyang Business School weighs in on the importance of public-private partnerships in the climate space, and the shift in thinking towards tackling the triple crises of climate, water and biodiversity crises together.
