The Big Story: Air India is losing billions. Is SIA's long-term bet still worth it?

View descriptionShare

Singapore Airlines’ investment in Air India is facing fresh scrutiny after the Indian carrier reportedly sought around US$1.5 billion in fresh funding from its owners.

SIA holds a 25.1 per cent stake in Air India, and its share of the airline’s losses came to about $945 million in the last financial year. Air India and Air India Express, meanwhile, recorded combined losses of more than US$2 billion.

So why does SIA remain committed to the investment? Is Air India still a strategic long-term bet worth backing or is it time for SIA to cut its losses and walk away?

On The Big Story, Hongbin Jeong speaks with Shukor Yusof, Founder and Analyst at Endau Analytics, to find out more.
